DP WORLD TO SPONSOR EMIRATI TRAINEES UNDER MAJID BIN MOHAMMED UAE NATIONALS TRAINING INITIATIVE

Dubai, United Arab Emirates - Saturday, June 25th 2011 [ME NewsWire]

As part of its commitment to support professional skills among young Emiratis, DP World, UAE Region recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with The Private Office of HH Sheikh Majid Bin Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum.

Under the MoU, DP World, UAE Region will sponsor high school and college graduates to be trained in professional skills for a period of three and six months respectively. The port operator will meet the cost of stipends paid to the trainees.

The MoU was signed by Mohammed Ali Ahmed, Director for Strategy Planning, Human Resources & Institutional Support, DP World UAE Region, and Khalid Abdulla Chookah, Head of Support & Liaison of the Private Office of His Highness Sheikh Majid Bin Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum.

The Private Office is dedicated to develop and create initiatives for knowledge management and communication and guide the national youth towards reaching their true potential as the future guardians of the country.

Mohammed Al Muallem, Senior Vice President and Managing Director, DP World, UAE Region, said:

“We are honoured to support the nation-building initiative launched by His Highness Sheikh Majid Bin Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum. Promoting professional and leadership skills among young Emiratis is an integral part of DP World, UAE Region’s corporate strategy, and we see this as an opportunity to reaffirm our commitment towards the welfare and development of the nation. We hope the selected graduates will gain from this experience and pursue careers with DP World or other UAE organisations.”

Marwan Juma Bin Bayat, General Manager of the Private Office of His Highness Sheikh Majid Bin Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, said: “We are pleased that a leading organisation such as DP World has joined the Majid Bin Mohammed UAE Nationals Training Initiative, and equip them with the needed professional skills that enable them to enter the labour market, and complement their educational knowledge with practical skills. This will definitely lead to a productive generation capable of actively participating in the national production process. DP World will provide the trainees with an opportunity to enter a unique sector that adds value to the initiative. We hope that this MoU marks the beginning of a long cooperation that benefits and supports our Emirati youth.”

DP World, UAE Region adopts a proactive policy of encouraging Emiratis to join its workforce across various departments such as management, finance, human resources, operations, technical and others.

As of May 2011, more than three quarters of Top Management are Emiratis; while some 68 per cent of Department Managers are UAE Nationals; more than 35 per cent of Middle Management and Supervisory positions are held by Emiratis.

In line with its policy, DP World, UAE Region has recruited 26 Nationals as trainees in the past 18 months. In addition, 22 Emiratis have been inducted in its Marine Trainee Scholarship Programme to train as marine captains, and a further six will join them in August this year.
