Al Gharbia Police Encourages Avoiding Entry into Desert

Tal Moreeb Race Participants to Practice in Designated Areas

ABU DHABI, United Arab Emirates - Sunday, December 29th 2013 [ME NewsWire]

The Western Region (Al Gharbia) Police Directorate urged the participants in the Tal Moreeb Race to adhere to public safety precautions and cooperate with police officers at the event. The Directorate also asked them to refrain from participating in dangerous sporting activities, like riding motor bikes and driving modified cars outside of the designated areas. The venue was specifically designed to ensure a safe and fun time for the drivers and the audience alike. It was designed so that their safety could be maintained and accidents could be avoided.
Colonel Ojeil Ali Abdullah, Director of the Western Region Police Directorate, asked the race participants and the audience to abstain from going far into the desert as a safety precaution. He said that if they are to do so, they should specify their location and use GPS systems to aid search efforts when they are necessary. He encouraged them to cooperate in maintaining safety and security during the special activities at Tal Moreeb. This partnership could be implemented by complete compliance with the law and by fulfilling their social responsibilities. He explained that people can report incidents at any of the events, or call for help via 999 or 0503188141 to get the required police services.
Colonel Abdullah said that the directorate warns the Tal Moreeb Race participants about the risks involved with dangerous sporting equipment, including the usage of motor bikes and modified cars outside of the designated areas. He also said that the directorate has set up patrol stations on the road between Liwa and Tal Moreeb that will ensure public safety, smooth traffic flow, and adherence to speed limits in order to avoid traffic accidents.
Furthermore, Colonel Abdullah pointed out the directorate has taken all safety and rescue measures to ensure the ability of immediate intervention when necessary. Community Police patrollers will be on site to distribute awareness flyers that inform the audience about safety precautions. These patrollers are responsible for ensuring the participants’ adherence to safety and security regulations.
He also stated that the directorate is continuously working on promoting the concept of public safety and security. Additionally, the directorate is introducing public safety plans that aim to provide the highest levels of safety and security. The directorate is also working on promoting the concept of partnership in accordance with Abu Dhabi Police’s strategy regarding partnership, social development, and community policing.
