Abu Dhabi Police’s Operations Room Pays Great Attention to Peculiar Calls
A lady Strays from her House while Standing Right Beside it and an Old Man Asks the Police to Stop Strong Winds
ABU DHABI, United Arab Emirates - Monday, December 23rd 2013 [ME NewsWire]
The Central Operations Room at Abu Dhabi Police GHQ handled three “peculiar” cases, after receiving a number of calls via the emergency services line (999). In the first case, an old man asked the police to stop the dust-laden winds so that he could leave his house; the second involved a person reporting an altercation in an Asian language after requesting the English language option; and the third case involved a lady who had strayed from her home, but was found standing right behind it.
Lieutenant Colonel Nasser Al Maskari, Head of Operations at the Directorate General of Central Operations at Abu Dhabi Police GHQ, said that these calls are handled with a considerable amount of attention, depending on the nature of the call and the significance of the inquiry. “The Central Operations Room is the first responder to emergency notifications, after which necessary procedures are taken. The notifier might be in dire need for timely assistance in such cases,” he added.
Lieutenant Colonel Al Maskari went on to describe the cases, and explained how each case was handled. As for the first report, he said that an old man form Abu Dhabi recently contacted the police requesting assistance to help stop the strong winds outside of his home because he wanted to go to Al Ezba. He noted that the Operations Room officer asked the old man to not leave his “secure” home, so he stayed home.
As for the second incident, Lieutenant Colonel Al Maskari said that an Asian person had called the Operations Room, asking to speak in English. As soon as the service officer told him that he could speak in the language he had selected, he started reporting an altercation that occurred in Abu Dhabi. However, he did so while speaking in an Asian language, mixed with Arabic. He said:”Fi nafar gengal ziyada, taal jeldi”. Al Maskari said that the operations officer took the man’s address, and patrols were dispatched to the destination.
As for the third incident, he said that a woman who recently moved to Khalifa City in Abu Dhabi timidly contacted the Operations Room and requested help to locate her new home. After finding the woman and pinpointing her house’s location, the officers found out that she was standing right behind it. The case was closed after making sure she reached her home safely.
He pointed out that the Operations Room is equipped with the latest equipment and technologies, and are operated by qualified staff members that provide good services to the public. The high-quality services are part of Abu Dhabi Police’s strategy of pursuing excellence. “Our staff members are always ready to receive emergency calls and reports and offer the required assistance to society members,” he continued.
He added: “The Operations Room (999) receives a variety of calls and notifications around-the-clock, in an effort to meet the needs and appeals of the public. This reflects the police leadership’s aim to communicate with the public, wherever they may be, and prevent risks, so as to reach a preventive system in daily life, where each individual becomes a partner to the police in emergency circumstances.”
