Dubai, UAE - Thursday, January 13th 2011 [ME NewsWire]

Dubai Police has said that the online bidding system offered by Tejari, the Business-to-Business (B2B) marketplace, has helped the Police Supplies & Services Department realize measurable value savings on public purchases made during 2010.

It said the Police Supplies & Services Department is committed to use and benefit from Tejari because of the transparency, fairness and anti-monopolistic service solutions offered by the platform.

Addressing the 2nd Suppliers Forum for Public Procurement organised by Dubai Police General Headquarters in collaboration with Tejari at the Dubai Police Officers Club recently, senior officers said this strategy is in line with Dubai Government’s overall vision of e-government through the use of technology-driven e-commerce.

The event, held under the patronage of General Rashid Al Mazroui, Director-General of Supplies & Services Department, Dubai Police, was attended by his deputy Brigadier Mohammed Saeed Bkaheet, Mr. Abdulla Miran, Police Supplies & Services Department Manager, Mr. Suhail Al Banna, CEO Tejari, several high ranking police officials, senior executives from Tejari, and representatives of companies that supply services and goods to Dubai Police.

Describing its partnership with Tejari as strategic and strong, Dubai Police said its online purchasing expanded substantially during last year – to 91 per cent of its total procurements, from 86 per cent in 2009, which in turn came as the result of the excellent services provided by Tejari and the Senior Consulting Services Manager at Tejari Mr. Abdulqader Ali Ramkooni.

The Keynote speakers were Mohammed Saeed Bakheet, Deputy Director of Supplies and Services, Dubai Police, and Francois Jordaan, Director, Customer Service, Tejari.

Dubai Police gave a presentation about its long term (2008-2015) strategy and how it is envisaged to be served by its eProcurement policy. It also explained how the internal process of awarding business to a supplier works, and gave a brief on the critical KPI’s of the Procurement Policy with regards to the quality of products and services procured.

The Forum discussed Dubai Police’s procurement needs, best practices to secure tenders, contracts and purchase orders, online sourcing and bidding through Tejari and ways to improve awareness about tendering opportunities.

Suhail Al Banna, Chief Executive Officer, Tejari, said:

“Dubai Police is a strategic partner of Tejari in promoting transparency and business best practices through our online platform. Electronic tendering is the way forward in this age of the Internet. Tejari empowers buyers and sellers through its innovative and cost-effective B2B solutions, match-making abilities and consulting services. We have created value for our users and changed the face of how business in this region is conducted. We thank Dubai Police for reaffirming their trust in Tejari.”

General Rashid Al Mazroui, Director-General of Supplies & Services Department, Dubai Police, said:

“This Forum is part of Dubai Police’s Corporate Social Responsibility towards our suppliers and contractors, aimed at informing them of the transparency and fairness involved in the government purchasing process. We are pleased that Tejari’s online tendering solutions have provided Dubai Police the right tools to implement our procurement policies. We look forward to more development and advanced technologies in the field of eCommerce by Tejari in the future.”

The interactive Forum session was followed by an awards ceremony during which special mementos were presented to Suhail Al Banna, CEO, Tejari, and the consulting team that supports Dubai Police through their continuous online sourcing process and activities. Awards were also given to Dubai Police’s 15 best suppliers for the year.
