HM Queen Sofia of Spain is the first driver of the new 100 % electric urban vehicle Peugeot iOn.

iOn by Peugeot 100% electric

Dubai, United Arab Emirates, Monday, September 27th 2010 [ME NewsWire]:
To get around during her summer stay in Palma, Majorca, HM Queen Sofia of Spain will use the Peugeot iOn, made available by Peugeot Spain, and will become the first driver of Peugeot’s new electric vehicle.

It is a privilege for Peugeot to place this very first iOn at the service of the Spanish Royal Family, known for its time-honored enthusiasm for the environmental cause.

Peugeot, the world leader in the production of electric vehicles in terms of the number of 106s sold from 1995 to 2003, takes a new step in its global strategy of emissions reductions by launching the iOn, the first new-generation electric vehicle, in Europe from the end of 2010.

Silent, lively, easy to handle and efficient thanks to its electric motor developing a power of 47 kW (64 bhp), this compact city run-around, with a length of 3.48 m, offers its four occupants a simple and relaxed drive, a high level of safety and a generous equipment specification.

Due to efficient management of electrical energy, the iOn has a comfortable range of 150 km in the standard European cycle. It takes 6 hours to fully recharge its Lithium-Ion battery, or 30 minutes for an 80 % charge using a special quick-charge terminal.

Designed for professional and private customers, the iOn will be available from the end of this year for a monthly rental of less than €500, which will include numerous maintenance and assistance services.

The iOn, 100 % electric, 100 % reality, is just one response from Peugeot to the new challenge of urban mobility: a welcome response, since to date 15 letters of intent have already been signed with mobility operators, environmental specialists and car-sharing companies in several European countries.
