Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates - Saturday, April 12th 2014 [ME NewsWire]
The
Ministry of Interior has urged staff members across over the various
police sectors at the countrywide level, as well as all segments of
society, especially parents, families, educators, and all stakeholders
and individuals interested in the technical aspects of child protection
to vote in favor of the MoI’s Child Protection Center at the World
Summit on Information Society (WSIS) Awards for 2014. The center has
been nominated for two projects that have been listed among the final
nominees for the WSIS Project Prize 2014. Both projects have
successfully passed the first and second levels of the qualification
rounds, among a total of 10 participating projects that are representing
the UAE in the competition. The Ministry of Interior also explained
that the 17th April 2014 is the deadline for completing the electronic
voting, which is open for everyone all over the world.
Lieutenant
General Saif Abdullah Al Sha’far, Undersecretary at the Ministry of
Interior, noted that the UAE's prestigious initiatives and unwavering
efforts are worthy of support and appreciation, notably because they
allowed the UAE to stand out on the international level and to compete
in events of the magnitude of the World Summit on Information Society
(WSIS) Awards for 2014.
He added: "Child protection is everyone's
responsibility; hence, the public's participation by casting their
votes will be crucial in supporting the UAE’s eight projects that have
made it through to the final stages, as well as the MoI’s Child
Protection Center’s projects; the HEMAYATI Application and its smart
services for the family, and the organization of the fifth Virtual
Global Taskforce (VGT) Conference in Abu Dhabi."
In a statement
distributed by the ministry to its staff members, the Undersecretary at
the Ministry of Interior reiterated the importance of voting having
reached the final stages, noting that the winning projects will be
referred to in the future as Emirati experiments that were pioneering
projects internationally; this will significantly enhance the UAE’s
stature among the most advanced countries in the world, and transform
the UAE into a knowledge economy and society.
Lieutenant General
Al Sha’far added that the ministry’s staff and community members can log
onto the MoI Child Protection Center's website and follow the listed
steps to cast their votes for the center and for the nominated UAE
projects by clicking on the following link: http://www.moi-cpc.gov.ae.
He also pointed to the adopted procedures to facilitate the voting
mechanisms through the MoI’s Child Protection Center’s profiles
@SafeChildUAE, on the social networking sites Facebook, Twitter and
Instagram.
The participating projects that are representing the
UAE in the competition reflect the strategic development references
inspired by the 2021 UAE Vision and the UAE government’s strategy. They
also reassert the scientific approach used in carrying out benchmarking
processes of developed services and projects, which reflects the
strategic planning involved in developing these projects and services
with a view to achieving a common goal; namely: “improve the
competitiveness of the UAE.”
For his part, Major General Nasser
Lakhrebani Al Nuaimi, Secretary General of the Office of HH Deputy Prime
Minister and Minister of Interior, Chairman of the Higher Committee for
Child Protection and the UAE representative at the Virtual Global
Taskforce Conference, called upon the public to vote in favor of the
MoI’s Child Protection Center and the nominated UAE projects that have
made it through to the nomination phase of the International
Telecommunication Union’s (ITU) WSIS Project Prizes 2014. He also
explained that the 10 Emirati projects that have successfully made it
through to the final stages of the WSIS Project Prizes 2014 are proof of
the UAE’s leading status and an addition to its myriad achievements.
“This accomplishment has been brought to fruition thanks to the work
teams that have doubled the efforts in record time, fuelled by an
unstinting support of the country’s leadership and the efforts of the
Ministry of Interior's employees. With these achievements, the Ministry
of Interior is credited with being the first ministry of interior
worldwide to make sustainable gains for the country and its citizens,”
continued Major General Al Nuaimi.
Adding further, he said: "The
strenuous efforts of work teams at the Ministry of Interior and the
different government sectors are inspired by the leadership’s
enlightened visions, which pave the way towards more leadership and
greater success. These glowing and iconic coveted achievements are
designed to serve the community, especially families and children, in
line with a continuous struggle towards further development and
modernization, to maintain the well-deserved gains."
Building and enhancing confidence
For
his part, Lieutenant Colonel Faisal Mohammed Al Shammari, Director of
the Ministry of Interior’s Child Protection Center, said: “The Center is
participating in the competition under the fifth category, which is
related to “Building confidence and security in the use of ICTs”. For
this category, the Child Protection Center has submitted the Smartphone
application “Hemayati”. The Child Protection Center is also
participating under the 18th category that is concerned with
“International and regional cooperation” with the project: “The 5th
Biennial Virtual Global Taskforce (VGT) Conference”, under the theme
“Combating Online Sexual Exploitation of Children with International
Cooperation as an Enabler of Protection”. He also stressed the MoI Child
Protection Center’s commitment to enhance cooperation with media
entities in the UAE, to promote the crime prevention culture to protect
children against potential crimes and to help strengthen society by
implementing international best practices, with a view to maintaining
the safety and security of families and children.
He also noted
that the “Hemayati” application was recently launched by the Ministry of
Interior following the instructions of the higher leadership, to enable
parents and families in general to keep track of their children’s
whereabouts. It also allows parents to communicate with their children
at all times, in addition to providing a built-in SOS feature, enabling
children to send distress calls to their parents when they feel
threatened. The application can be downloaded for free on Smartphones.
It can only be activated by parents in order to determine their
children’s whereabouts should they go missing.
The Ministry of
Interior has launched the HEMAYATI Application for free on the App Store
follows the center’s previous success in launching the application on
Google Play for Smartphones operating via Android System. It also
personifies the Ministry of Interior's efforts of developing smart
interactive services via mobile phones.
