Western Region Police Prepares for Water Sports Festival in Al Marfa

ABU DHABI, United Arab Emirates - Wednesday, April 23rd 2014

The Western Region Police Directorate announced that its readiness to secure the Water Sports Festival, which will is set to kick off on Thursday at Al Marfa city beach in the Western Region and will continue until the 3rd of May. The Festival will be held in an area that spans over 20,000 square meters and will include cash awards totaling AED 4 million.

Colonel Ojeil Ali Abdullah, Director of the Western Region Police Directorate, highlighted the importance of this event taking place in the Western Region, pointing out the directorate's efforts to communicate with the public of visitors visiting the region from different areas across the country and abroad.

Moreover, he stressed the directorate’s keenness to implement the Abu Dhabi Police GHQ’s strategy in order to enhance security and safety for all society segments and constantly gain the public’s confidence in the services provided by the Abu Dhabi Police; according to international best standards, in addition to publicizing police messages in the areas of awareness, security, and community service.

He added that the directorate has started preparations for this event a while back. He noted that an awareness exhibition will be organized with a view to collect inquiries from visitors regarding the services provided by the Western Region Police Directorate to the public and to strengthen partnership with the community. He also indicated that the security committee will strive to overcome all obstacles that may face the public at the Festival’s site, and to maintain their security.

Furthermore, Colonel Abdullah urged participants in these events, including athletes and audience, to cooperate with police and security officers that will be present at the Festival site. He also called upon them to leverage such festivals as an opportunity to promote public safety, spread the culture of safety among all entities that practice this sport, its fans and audience, on the need to maintain the lives of young people by adhering to safety procedures that prevent the risk of injuries.

In conclusion, Colonel Abdullah appealed to parents and caregivers to closely watch children at the beach and around swimming pools, to never leave them alone and unattended,  in order to react quickly and be able to rescue them in case of drowning or any injury that may  threaten their lives.
