As part of its annual plan for 2013, the Community Police Department at the Abu Dhabi Police General Headquarters launched an awareness-raising campaign under the slogan “Our children, our responsibility”. The campaign, which targets parents of all society segments, aims to boost awareness of the need to keep a watchful eye on children, to keep them safe and protect them from potential risks and wrongful behaviors.
Lt. Colonel Mubarak Bin Muhairom, Head of Department of Community Police emphasized that the campaign highlights the need to protect children from the different types of risks: “Child protection is a shared responsibility across society,” he said. He urged parents and caregivers not to leave children alone on balconies, inside cars or around swimming pools. He also warned against letting children play unattended in the streets, or handle sharp objects in fear for their lives.
Lt. Colonel Muhairom stressed the pivotal role of parents in providing advice and guidance to their children on the need to be cautious and avoid all causes of risks. He called upon parents to closely watch their children, help them choose good friends and find beneficial ways to spend their leisure time, and educate them on the importance of pursuing educational attainment.
The Community Police patrols distributed awareness booklets and brochures to community members on the campaign and its objectives. The brochures are part of the tireless efforts exerted by the department to interact with parents on the need to respond to the campaign and keep their children safe at all times.
