TECOM’s
leadership team congratulates the UAE and Dubai on successful Expo bid;
highlights how the Emirate’s business community will benefit
Dubai, United Arab Emirates. - Thursday, November 28th 2013 [ME NewsWire]
Dr
Amina Al Rustamani, Group CEO of TECOM Investments, today led the world
class developer and operator of business parks’ congratulations to the
leadership of the UAE and Dubai following news that the Emirate has won
the right to host Expo 2020.
In a memo to TECOM’s 4,500 business
partners, Dr Amina stated that its 11 industry-focused business parks –
10 of which are free zones – will play an important role in providing a
stable and dedicated platform for thousands of companies as they seek to
take advantage of the commercial opportunities hosting the Expo will
bring.
According to a recent Oxford Economics report, hosting the
Expo will contribute AED 141 billion to Dubai’s GDP and create 277,000
jobs over the next seven years. Dr Amina’s memo suggests that these
benefits will come in three distinct phases, directly helping businesses
and further developing the Emirate’s knowledge economy.
Extracts
from Dr Amina Al Rustamani’s memo said: “Winning Expo 2020 is a
remarkable achievement for Dubai and the UAE. We must recognise the
vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Ruler of
Dubai, in seeking to bring the World Expo to the Middle East for the
very first time – and for foreseeing the benefits it will bring to the
business community and the wider knowledge economy. His ambitions for
the Emirate over recent years have ensured Dubai is more than capable of
welcoming the world on such a huge scale.
“Hosting Expo 2020
will be a catalyst for the ongoing diversification and development of
Dubai’s knowledge economy, and we are likely to see the benefits in
three distinct phases. There will be an immediate shot in the arm in
terms of economic confidence. This will be followed by the planned
infrastructure and project investments taking shape over the next six
years during the preparation stage, which will offer growth
opportunities across a range of industries – from manufacturing and
media to tourism and education. Once the event is complete there will
also be a strong legacy that the event leaves behind, which businesses
will be able to take advantage of.
“Companies of all sizes and
sectors will benefit as they seek to support the event with products and
services before, during and after the Expo. Importantly, through it
all, TECOM Investments will play an important supporting role in
providing the business-friendly, stable and dedicated environments from
which thousands of companies will be able to compete and succeed,
creating hundreds of thousands of jobs along the way.”
Commenting
on the Expo announcement, Malek Al Malek, CEO of TECOM Business Parks,
said: “On behalf of TECOM’s business parks, I congratulate the UAE and
Dubai leadership on securing the right to host Expo 2020. This is a huge
achievement, which will enable the UAE to demonstrate its many
attractions, innovations and talents on a global scale. As it has always
done in the past with such occasions, I am confident that Dubai will
strive to not only deliver a successful Expo, but it will aim to host
the best Expo the world has ever seen.
“Dubai’s successful Expo
campaign theme, Connecting Minds, Creating the Future, resonates closely
with the ambition of TECOM’s business parks. Since their inception,
these dedicated business hubs have underpinned Dubai’s drive to become a
knowledge-sharing economy through their dedication to specific
industries.”
The leaders of TECOM’s business parks have also
congratulated the UAE and Dubai on winning the Expo bid. Their reactions
and views on how their industries will support the Expo project are
copied below.
REACTION FROM TECOM’S INDUSTRY FOCUSED CLUSTERS:
Abdullah
Belhoul, CEO of Dubai Industrial City, said: “We are delighted to hear
Dubai has won Expo 2020, and congratulate His Highness Sheikh Mohammed
bin Rashid Al Maktoum, whom under his wise leadership, Dubai was able to
compete at a global level and demonstrate the tangible achievements of
Vision 2020 to the whole world. We are positive that the Expo will add
to the continued developments and successes that the UAE has been
witnessing over recent years. It will certainly be a major boost for all
the sectors, and will significantly be reflected on the industrial
sector. We consider the Expo a great opportunity for Dubai Industrial

and will be in a perfect location to offer all exhibitors and investors
an excellent nearby zone of advanced products and facilities including
warehousing and logistics solutions.”
Majed Al Suwaidi, Managing
Director, TECOM’s ICT Cluster, which includes Dubai Internet City and
Dubai Outsource Zone, said: “I want to congratulate everyone involved on
the fantastic news that Dubai has won the Expo 2020 bid. The Expo will
showcase Dubai and the UAE’s excellence across all fields, including the
ICT and technology industries, and will provide a huge boost to the
industry as well as our economy and cultural offering. Dubai’s global
connectivity and accessibility, as well as its thriving industries and
infrastructure, will allow exhibitors to reach a large and varied
international audience, and Dubai Internet City and Dubai Outsource Zone
will provide the grounds and the ecosystem to allow companies in the
ICT value chain to flourish in the run-up to and during the event.
Holding the Expo will bring together the global community in a
celebration of Dubai’s achievements and its pioneering industries and
talent, and it looks to be an inspiring and world-class event.’
Mohammad
Abdullah, Managing Director, TECOM’s Media Cluster, said:
“Congratulations to everyone who has been involved in Dubai’s successful
bid for Expo 2020. Not only does this confirm Dubai and the UAE’s
status as a leading economy and cultural destination, but it
demonstrates to the world the top quality services and talent that the
Emirate offers. The UAE is a truly inspiring success story and the Expo
will allow the world to marvel at the wonders offered by Dubai. Our
successful bid sends a positive signal to the rest of the world that the
Middle East, a place of great change in recent years, is a region of
innovation and dynamism, and it confirms the UAE’s place as a leader on
the world stage.”
Dr Ayoub Kazim, Managing Director, TECOM’s
Education Cluster, which includes DIAC and DKV, said: “This is a
significant milestone in the UAE and Dubai’s history, and one that will
benefit the region for many years to come. Hosting the event will not
only strengthen Dubai’s position as one of the world’s leading trade
hubs, but it will also help businesses foster greater collaborations
with other communities and inspire the next generation of business
leaders and innovators. Winning the bid also underpins our own goals to
develop the region’s talent pool and produce world-class graduates that
are ready and willing to contribute to the UAE’s social and economic
development.”
Marwan Abdulaziz, Managing Director TECOM’s
Sciences Cluster, which includes DuBiotech and ENPARK, said: “I would
like to congratulate the leaders of the UAE on the substantial
achievement of being chosen as the host for Expo 2020. It is a testament
to the strong vision of our esteemed leadership that our city of Dubai
has been selected. The strong sustainability mission of Expo 2020 is
something that we champion at ENPARK every day. Our freezone acts as a
platform for synergies that favour innovation and knowledge sharing in
the sustainability sector as a method of building a diversified economy,
and we believe that in winning this truly prestigious event, the
sustainability sector in Dubai will exponentially build in strength. As a
cluster, we are well aligned with the values and objectives of Expo and
look forward to assisting the organisers in any way we can to ensure
the event is a success for the good of our country.”
