Colonel
Khamis Musbah Al Marar, Head of the Ports and Airports Security
Department at the Abu Dhabi Police, inaugurated the Weapons Educational
Museum. This museum is to be used during training courses to promote
security awareness and instill concepts and skills within staff members
of the Ports Security Institute.
Colonel Al Marar stressed the
Abu Dhabi Police’s commitment to keep up-to-date with the latest and
best techniques to develop police member skills and boost the
community’s security and safety.
Lieutenant Abdul Latif Mohammed
Khamis Al Hammadi, Director of the Training Branch at the Ports Security
Institute, presented a briefing on the museum’s objectives. “This
museum is the first-of-its-kind in the country. It targets the staff
members of the police, customs, and naturalization, residency, and ports
to familiarize them with the nature of banned material and prevent such
items from entering through airports and ports. They are also briefed
on some methods that were exposed in previous incidents to bring these
materials into the country,” indicated Al Hammadi.
He added: “In
conjunction with the training courses in the institute, training visits
to the museum will be organized to acquaint attendees with its
objectives. This aims to enrich the theoretical lectures with field
experiences enhancing skills in the areas of police and security work.”
The
inauguration ceremony was attended by a number of officers and
representatives of the Customs Department at the Abu Dhabi International
Airport. In parallel, the Director of the Ports and Airports Security
Department at Abu Dhabi Police attended the graduation ceremony of
trainees from four specialized training courses in the field of the
ports and airports security; the ceremony was organized by the Ports
Security Institute. A total of 70 trainees from the Abu Dhabi Police GHQ
participated in these courses, which included: the “Airports Security
Basics” course; the “Detection and Security Inspection using computer
based simulation training (CBT)” course; the “Relationship Management
between Superiors and Subordinates” course; and the “English Language”
course for the Airports Police Members.
Colonel Al Marar noted
that these specialized training courses embody the Abu Dhabi Police
GHQ’s strategy to qualify and train its human cadre and provide them
with the scientific and practical knowledge, experience, and skills that
enable them to perform their security functions and duties efficiently
and effectively.
“The institute pursues its training duties in
accordance with its plan to train and qualify security officers and
individuals operating in ports and airports. This plan is based on model
curricula of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO),”
indicated Al Marar.
The Head of the Ports and Airports Security
Department noted that the training is of great importance to develop the
security capabilities of officers and individuals. “The participation
of officers from the Airport Customs Department at the Abu Dhabi
International Airport in the security inspection specialized training
program is vital to enhance coordination and cooperation with strategic
partners,” Al Marar highlighted.
The graduation ceremony was
attended by a number of officers from the Ports and Airports Security
Department, and customs officials at the Abu Dhabi International
Airport.
