ADP Traffic and Patrols Directorate Educates Motorists on New Western Region Speed Limits

ABU DHABI, United Arab Emirates - Wednesday, October 28th 2015 [ME NewsWire]

In light of the current project to expand the Abu Dhabi – Al Ghuwaifat Road, the Traffic and Patrols Directorate at Abu Dhabi Police have increased their traffic awareness efforts at the Ghuwaifat Border, the gas stations along the Abu Dhabi – Al Ghuwaifat Road, and in other densely populated driving areas. The efforts of the Directorate aim to educate drivers about the impending change to the speed and radar limits set to be effective as of 15 November in a bid to preserve lives while also ensuring a streamlined flow of traffic during the ongoing construction.

“The campaign has been organized in coordination with a number of governmental and private institutions, and will continue through the middle of next month - when the new speed limits apply,” Major Suhail Sayah Al Mazroui, Chief of the Western Region Traffic Section said.

He also indicated that the Traffic Section will intensify control on the road in order to ensure that drivers are adhering to the new speed limits in the three key stretches of the road. He pointed out that the radars are adjusted accordingly with regards to the new speeds, and are set to identify the vehicles that exceed the designated speed limits from the Al Dhafra Bridge diversion to Al Ghuweifat.

“The awareness campaign via the educational traffic patrols includes the distribution of multi-lingual publications that are written in the most common languages used by drivers who enter and exit the UAE via the land ports,” said Captain Abdul Rahman Al Ali, Public Relations Branch Manager in the Western Region. “This step comes in order to both educate the driver and to urge them to adhere to the designated speed limits –which were set after conducting thorough studies of the traffic flow.”

Calling upon all companies operating in the field of transportation and truck drivers, Captain Al Ali urged for all those involved to educate their drivers regarding the new speeds and the importance of their adherence to the speeds in order to maintain their safety and the safety of others.

The modified speed limits on the Abu Dhabi – Al Ghuwaifat Road are divided into three key stretches.

The first stretch is 176 km both ways, reaching from the Al Dhafra Bridge diversion to the Baynunah Forest, with a speed limit of 100 km/h and radars set at 121 km/h. The second stretch runs between the Baynunah Forest and the Barakah region, with a speed limit of 120 km/h and radar setting of 141 km/h. The third stretch extends 64 km both ways from Barakah to Al Ghuwaifat, with a speed limit of 100 km/h and a radar setting of 121 km/h.
