6th Annual UAE Cancer Congress 2014 officially inaugurated by H.E. Sheikh Nahyan Bin Mubarak Al Nahyan

The 6th edition of UAE Cancer Congress 2014 - one of the most premiere events in the field of oncology - commenced on Thursday at Grand Hyatt Dubai under the patronage and presence of H.E. Sheikh Nahyan Bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Culture, Youth and Community Development and President of UAE Genetic Diseases Association.
The three day congress is presented by Al Noor Hospitals Group and Gulf International Cancer Center & Main Partner, American Hospital, under the conference theme: “Promoting Excellence in Oncology”. Hosting an audience of over 1,200 this year, the congress has witnessed 65% participation from the Middle East and 35% participation internationally. The 6th edition is an excellent platform to exchange expertise and views through a unique program comprising of debates, case discussions, multidisciplinary boards, panel discussions, workshops and symposiums.
One of the key highlights of the congress is the launch of the MENA Chapter of International Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary Association (IHPBA) and E-AHPBA. IHPBA, being the largest multinational, multispecialty organization dealing with diseases of the liver, pancreas and biliary system, will present the charter of this new launch in order to promote HPB surgery in the Middle East region.
The congress is also supported by UAE Genetic Disease Association (UAEGDA), a non-profit organization aimed to control and prevent population-specific genetic diseases prevalent in the UAE. The UAEGDA facilitates communication and publication of scientific knowledge and promotes education and research in genetics. The event has also received significant support by Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital & Research Centre from Pakistan, along with Tata Memorial Centre and Indian Cooperative Oncology Network from India.
This year, the UAE Cancer Congress has awarded 5 research and travel grants to doctors from India, Pakistan and Egypt. Over the three days, the event will feature sessions that promote a multidisciplinary approach to oncology covering areas, including Lung, Gynecology, GI, Head & Neck, Breast Surgical, Nursing, Nutrition, Imaging, HPB disorders and others. Moreover, three days of special workshop will be held for Nurses, in partnership with Oncology Nursing Society.
