Security Media Department Reveals the Best Applied Practices in Government Communication


In a meeting hosted by the Ministry of Interior

The Security Media Department at the General Secretariat of the Office of His Highness Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior revealed its best practices applied in the area of Government Communication, which earned it the Mohammed bin Rashid Government Excellence Award for the Best Practice in the area of government communication. This came during the periodic meeting that was recently held by the Government Communication Network at the Fairmont Bab Al Bahr hotel, Abu Dhabi. The meeting was held under the patronage of the Ministry of Interior and attended by heads of government communication departments at the ministries, and federal agencies and authorities.

During the meeting, which was organized by the Government Communication Office, at the General Secretariat of the Cabinet, Lieutenant Colonel Saeed Al Khajah, Deputy Director of Security Media Department, gave a presentation highlighting several issues namely; the leadership’s support of government communication; compliance with the objectives of the government communication strategy at the federal level; the conformity between the government communication’s objectives and the Ministry of Interior’s strategic objectives; as well as determining levels for key processes related to government communication.

Lieutenant Colonel Al Khajah also explained the importance of reviewing similar experiences and practices; carrying out benchmarking comparisons and field studies; in addition to the best practices applied in the Security Media Department such as V-SAT system, the Electronic Photo Sharing Software, the media platform at the operations room, Radio Studio, and the Security Media patrols. He also stressed the need to create modern and effective means of communication on social networking sites to reach users, communicate with them, and establish a diversity of communication languages in order to get through to various segments of society. He pointed out that a television studio fitted with the latest technical equipment and devices will soon be established.

For her part, Mrs. Amal Majid Al Muhairi, Deputy Director of Government Communications at the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Community Development, gave a presentation by which she explained the role of institutional leadership and its support of the Government Communication Department, which earned it the Mohammed bin Rashid Government Excellence Award for the Best Practice in the area of government communication.

She also gave an overview of the government communication’s strategy and objectives, the department’s operations and the means to link them to both, the MoI and government communication strategies. She also highlighted the keenness of the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Community Development to always improve and develop the capabilities and skills of the government communication team and spokespersons and to identify the annual training needs.

Moreover, Mrs. Al Muhairi indicated that the department applies a specific methodology to manage relations with partners and to implement initiatives that boost relations with them.

For his part, Captain Ahmed Nassib Al Mansouri, Chief of the Strategic Planning Section at the Security Media Department, gave a presentation on the MoI’s awareness campaign about the risks and dangers of drugs, which is organized under the slogan “They Fooled Me”. He also pointed out to leveraging the various social media networking sites and using the latest communication technology to introduce the campaign: “This approach has allowed the campaign to get through to the largest segment of society, in a bid to acquaint them with its objectives that focus mainly on increasing awareness about the dangers of drug use and abuse, and the negative impacts on the individual, family and society,” he said.
