MoI Prepares for “GCC Traffic Week”


Events Taking Place under “Your Safety is Our Goal” Slogan Start on March 9th

The Ministry of Interior is preparing for the “Unified GCC Traffic Week 2014” at the countrywide level.  The event will kick off on March 9th, under the slogan “Your Safety is Our Goal”, across the country and all Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) states.

The MoI has set up a work team responsible for preparing for the events taking place during the “Unified GCC Traffic Week 2014.” The team is responsible for coordinating with the authorities that are concerned with traffic safety to prepare for the celebration, in addition to communicating with the media to raise public awareness about traffic safety. The team will work to accomplish the MoI’s traffic safety goals.

In a statement regarding the UAE’s celebration of the “Unified GCC Traffic Week 2014”, Brigadier Ghaith Hassan Al Zaabi, Director General of the Traffic Coordination Department at the Ministry of Interior, called for increasing cooperation among society members in order to reduce traffic accidents and cut down traffic fatalities. He said that this is not only the police, security, traffic and patrols departments’ responsibility, but it is also the responsibility of individuals, private companies, and transport agencies as well.

He also explained that the main goal of this annual celebration is to deliver an awareness message to the public about the dangers of traffic accidents, and encourage individuals and different institutions to collaborate with traffic and patrols departments. “All society segments must work together to limit these accidents that have become a great concern for the UAE, as it is the number one cause of deaths in the country,” he added.

Brigadier Al Zaabi also said that achieving traffic awareness is a responsibility that need to be assumed by all institutions and sectors across the country; as such, schools, parents, businessmen, companies, laborers, drivers and all other bodies should be engaged in promoting traffic safety Additionally, he noted that the “Unified GCC Traffic Week 2014” features various events that serve the goal of its slogan. The “Traffic Week” will witness lectures, forums, and competitions for the benefit of all society segments. The traffic and patrols departments will carry out awareness campaigns all over the country, and will also distribute posters and leaflets that promote the slogan.

In conclusion, Brigadier Al Zaabi mentioned that the “Traffic Week” events will be varied and innovative, to allow participants to benefit from the proposed programs and increase awareness via relevant awareness publications. Traffic and patrols departments all over the UAE have been increasing their efforts to intensify traffic awareness activities, including a visit schedule for GCC countries traffic departments’ delegations to the departments of traffic and patrols in the UAE.
