Abu Dhabi Police Participates in Earth Hour


ABU DHABI, United Arab Emirates - Sunday, March 30th 2014 [ME NewsWire]

Abu Dhabi Police General Headquarters participated in the celebration of Earth Hour 2014 on Saturday evening. All lights were turned off for an hour starting at 08:30 p.m. This step was taken to mark the participation in the international initiative that aims to raise awareness about global warming, power saving, and the protection of the environment.

This event was in response to the instructions of Lt. General HH Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, and to express the Abu Dhabi Police GHQ’s belief in the essentiality of the protection of the environment.

For his part, Major General Khalil Dawood Badran, Chairman of the Green Applications Higher Committee, asserted that the Abu Dhabi Police GHQ, following the directions of HH Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, is keen on participating in all events to promote the best green practices, environment protection, pollution prevention, and environmental performance development across the country. These practices help in protecting natural resources and foster its sustainability for the coming generations. Additionally, Abu Dhabi Police has adopted a set of mechanisms and policies that are concerned with rationalizing the consumption of water, electricity, fuel, and paper.

“This participation shows the leading role that Abu Dhabi Police GHQ plays, as a leading and distinguished governmental entity,” added Major General Badran. “It is a role model for all governmental entities, especially concerning social and environmental responsibilities.”

Furthermore, Major General Khalil Dawood Badran said: “The institutionalization of this field’s work on the GHQ level started in 2009, when it adopted the Environmental Charter, which is concerned with its commitment to protecting the natural environment and providing healthy indoor environments for employees and clients of the GHQ. In line with the Abu Dhabi Police’s efforts in adopting environmental policy, an environmental strategy and green applications were established to apply the strategic plan’s methods and fulfilling it.”

In conclusion, Major General Khalil Dawood Badran explained: “The Abu Dhabi Police GHQ works on motivating and encouraging its general directorates to adopt the best environmentally-conscious solutions and green applications to maintain a sustainable environment that improves the quality of life in the UAE, in line with the UAE Vision 2021. The Abu Dhabi Police GHQ is also adopting green policies and practices to improve environmental performance and reduce resource depletion. It has also been encouraging positive practices that improve overall environmental performance across the country and achieve the UAE’s National Green Growth Strategy goals.”
