ADP Organizes Workshop on Geographic Information Systems

The Abu Dhabi Police GIS Center for Security recently organized a specialized workshop titled; “GIS Technology Integration with policing and public safety applications”. The workshop was organized in cooperation with Harris Atlas Systems LLC and the Georgia Institute of Technology (commonly referred to as Georgia Tech).

Major General Ahmed Nasser Al Raisi, Director General of Central Operations, attended the graduation ceremony which was held at the Abu Dhabi Police General Headquarters. He distributed certificates to the graduates, stressing the police leadership’s keenness to invest in human resources and leverage modern technology.

Major General Al Raisi noted that the strategic partnership with Harris Atlas LLC and Georgia Tech will reflect positively on improving the skills of law enforcement personnel and keeping pace with the latest scientific developments.

A total of 13 officers from the GIS Center for Security took part in the two-week workshop, which was held at the training hall of the GIS Center for Security for Policing, Security, and Public Safety Applications, at the MoI’s Technical Institute.

For his part, Engineer Wesley Covell, Managing Director Harris Atlas Systems LLC, stressed the importance of strategic partnership with the Abu Dhabi Police GHQ, so as to help achieving the strategic vision. He also urged the graduates to make additional efforts to improve their work and achieve excellence.

Major Mohammed Saleh Al Mansouri, Director of the GIS Security Center at Abu Dhabi Police, said that the workshop is the inaugural step towards launching a specialized comprehensive development program in GIS sciences and applications in policing, public safety, civil defense, and internal security. It complements the internal and external projects to be implemented as part of the memorandum of understanding signed with Harris Atlas Systems LLC. This approach falls in line with the strategy to invest in information technology and ensure the optimal use of human resources, so as to improve performance in accordance with the best international standards. 

In conclusion, Major Al Mansouri stressed the importance of enhancing staff members’ competencies in GIS sciences, which take into account the information security standards, and the open GIS formats, as well as activating the role of academic and training institutions to achieve Emiratisation of the GIS technology at the countrywide level. It is worth mentioning that the workshop is part of the strategic initiative to activate the GIS security system at the federal level.
