De Montfort University: University Academic Wins Prized Ernst & Young Bursary

LEICESTER, England, Thursday, December 16th 2010 [ME NewsWire]:

(BUSINESS WIRE)-- A Nigerian academic from De Montfort University (DMU) in Leicester (UK) has been awarded a bursary by major international accounting and finance firm Ernst & Young to encourage collaboration between the UK and US.

Dr Ismail Adelopo, senior lecturer in the Department of Accounting and Finance, based in the Leicester Business School at DMU has received a bursary of £1500 to present a research paper at the American Accounting Association International Section Mid-Year Conference in Tampa, Florida in January 27-29 2011.

Dr Adelopo’s paper, co-authored by DMU colleagues Dr Kumba Jallow and Dr Peter Scott, is entitled Multiple Large Ownership Structure, Audit Committee Activity and Audit Fees. It examines corporate governance practices and procedures, which are topical issues in relation to recent corporate collapses and the pressures of the recession, as well as regulatory pressures found both in the UK and internationally.

Ernst & Young is one of the largest professional services firms in the world and one of the Big Four auditors. The firm recognises the limited resources available to UK academics and has established the bursary to enable a UK academic to make a contribution to better understanding between academics in UK and US, and to encourage collaborative work.

Dr Adelopo is a member of a number of professional bodies and national/international accounting associations, including the Association of Chartered Certified Accountant (ACCA), Institute of Chartered Accountant of Nigeria (ICAN), the British Accounting Association and the European Accounting Association (EAA).
