ADP Traffic Directorate: Awareness Initiative for Drivers and Pilgrims Transport Companies
The Abu Dhabi Police Traffic and Patrols Directorate, represented by the Public Relations Section, reviewed the traffic awareness initiative for pilgrims travelling by land. The initiative, implemented as part of the Security Media Department’s “Your Safety” campaign, in cooperation with Abu Dhabi Police Traffic and Patrols Directorate via all media outlets, aims at ensuring pilgrims’ safety during their journey to and from the Holy Land.
Lt. Colonel Jamal Salem Al Ameri, Chief of Public Relations Section at Abu Dhabi Police Traffic and Patrols Directorate, explained that the traffic awareness initiative for pilgrims includes setting up traffic education points on the Abu Dhabi-Al Ghuwaifat Road, and Al Ain, Khatam Al Shukla, Mezyad, Al Madheef and Al Hilli border posts. As part of the initiative, educational traffic pamphlets and booklets are distributed to acquaint pilgrims with traffic safety procedures, as well as other sample gifts that include ditty bags and first aid kits.
Moreover, Al Ameri indicated that the meeting that was held on Monday at the directorate, tackled cooperation with the Western Region’s Police Directorate, along with Al Ghuwaifat Ports Security Section, Passports and Customs Section, in addition to cooperation with the Western Region municipality. The meeting was attended by Captain Aisha Mohammed Al Zaabi, Traffic Awareness Officer at the Public Relations Section; Lieutenant Nasser Al Shamesi, Acting Relations Branch Manager in Al Ain, and First Lieutenant Sultan Al Ameri.
Al Ameri stressed the need for pilgrims’ buses to meet technical specifications, to be suitable for long land journeys, and to be furnished with comfortable seating. “Buses should also be fully maintained before travelling and expired worn-out tires should be replaced to ensure pilgrims’ safety,” he added.
Concluding, Al Ameri urged drivers to abide by the designated speed limits and legal cargo restrictions, which should not exceed 60 centimeters. He also called on them to be cautious during their trips to and from the holy land, to take some rest and to stop driving if they feel tired. He also called on them to abide by the legal speed limits within the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia on their way to and from the rituals performance.
