Nahyan bin Mubarak inaugurates Mubarak bin Mohammed Snooker Championship

H.E Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Culture, Youth and Community Development, inaugurated the late Mubarak Bin Mohammed Al Nahyan Snooker Championship on Sunday. The championship, which runs until March 25th, will take place at the Abu Dhabi Police Officers Club. Sheikh Nahyan expressed his delight at the organization of the championship, which embodies loyalty and allegiance to a prominent national figure, who has contributed to building the nation.
In his speech during the ceremony, he said: “His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, spares no effort to inculcate high values and principles that contribute to the country’s renaissance and deepen the feelings of love, belonging, and loyalty to the Nation in the heart of the country’s citizens”.
“General His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, is playing a significant role in achieving progress and prosperity at the countrywide level. He also devotes a great attention to human development in the UAE, in order to prepare national qualified cadre, capable of leading the march of prosperity and progress for themselves, their nation, and the whole world,” he added.
HE Sheikh Nahyan also noted that late Sheikh Mubarak was a seasoned faithful man, known for his loyalty, dedication, and love for all citizens of the UAE. “His Highness late Sheikh Mubarak, May God rest his soul, has worked hard alongside the late founding father of the UAE, Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan (May God have mercy on his soul) to build our great nation. Together, they helped to implant the feelings of love, belonging, and loyalty to the Nation in our hearts; as well as the need to care for the country’s sons and daughters,” he said.
Adding further, he said: “Late Sheikh Mubarak (May his soul rest in peace) was a unique example of constructive purposeful work and sincere effort. He was also a prominent member of a distinguished team of founding fathers, who were able, with God's help, to achieve all they ever wanted. The pillars of comprehensive renaissance were established in record time, allowing citizens to enjoy a decent prosperous life in an environment of patriotism and unity, and to proudly take part in the efforts made to achieve the country’s goals and aspirations”.
“As sons, friends and admirers of late father Sheikh Mubarak; we believe that this championship reflects a number of valuable meanings, which stem from the heritage and values of this beloved homeland. H.E Sheikh Nahyan expressed his thanks and appreciation to all parties that contributed to the good organization of this championship.  He also thanked Lt. General H.H Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, in recognition of his directives to organize the championship in memory of Sheikh Mubarak, UAE’s first Minister of Interior. He also thanked the organizers and sponsors: the Police College, the UAE Billiards & Snooker Association, and the Indian Business and Professionals Group.
The celebration began with the National Anthem and was attended by retired Major General Mustafa Shehab Al Hashimi, the championship director; Brigadier Saeed Saif Al Nuaimi, Head of the Procurement and Warehouse Department; Colonel Aref Al Shamesi, Head of Clubs and Sports Activities Department; along with a number of officers and officials at Abu Dhabi Police and T. P. Seetharam, Ambassador of the Republic of India to the UAE.
Following the inauguration speech, the Minister of Culture, Youth and Community Development kicked off the championship’s draw for competing groups on a giant screen at the Police Officers Club Theatre. Then, he went to the Snookers Hall and marked the beginning of the championship.
Furthermore, H.E Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak toured the photo gallery that is held on the sidelines of the championship. The photo gallery includes a set of photographs of late Sheikh Mubarak Bin Mohammed Al Nahyan (may God have mercy upon his soul) throughout his career, as founding member of the police institution and Minister of Interior.
