The Abu Dhabi Police urged people with special needs to register and update their data with the Zayed Charitable and Humanitarian Foundation for inclusion in the text messaging service system, which is available through the number 5999. The service allows this category to seek assistance around-the-clock by communicating through SMS with the Operations Room in the event of an accident or to request assistance.
The Abu Dhabi Police GHQ has launched the 5999 service to receive reports from persons with special needs through SMS linked with the Operations Room. The service was launched in coordination with the Zayed Charitable and Humanitarian Foundation.
Notably, the Abu Dhabi Police Operations Room handled 100 reports, which were received from this societal category during the first half of this year.
“The 5999 service for receiving SMS from disabled people is one of the projects aiming to communicate with this category in case of an accident or emergency situation; it also contributes to the development of police services and meets the needs of beneficiaries,” said Lt. Colonel Nasser Al Maskari, Director at the Central Operations Directorate General at the Abu Dhabi Police.
He also noted that preparations are underway for system requirements suiting this category of people with the Zayed Higher Organization for Humanitarian Care and Special Needs in cooperation with the Department of IT and Telecommunications and the Abu Dhabi Police Department of Vehicles and Drivers Licensing. This coordination will enable the system to link with the new service in the Operations Room for appropriate responses when receiving reports from special needs individuals.
“The project complies with the services marketing methodology and contributes to its development so as to increase the speed of communication with disabled people thereby meeting their needs. It also aims to speed up the arrival of police members and ambulances to the incident scene,” he added.
He explained the mechanism to communicate with users by sending a SMS to the number 5999 to report incidents and cases of illness, stressing the need to clarify the type and place of the report, as well as the type of injury. The Operations Room receives messages through this special program with a database containing basic information about special needs people, who are registered at the Zayed Higher Organization for Humanitarian Care and Special Needs. When the report is received, it is immediately classified as traffic accident or criminal incident. Afterwards, the patrol is directly dispatched to the scene in order to take the necessary measures.
