ABU DHABI, United Arab Emirates - Sunday, September 22nd 2013 [ME NewsWire]

The Abu Dhabi Police Traffic and Patrols Directorate’s sports vehicles led a motorcycle parade, which was recently organized in the capital city of Abu Dhabi as part of the Abu Dhabi International Motorbike Show. Approximately 400 motorists from the United Arab Emirates, Sultanate of Oman, and other GCC countries participated.

The Directorate’s Protocol and Traffic Control Section’s motorcycles displayed a variety of formations during the parade, in addition to accompanying the parade from the front, the back, and the sides. The ambulance of the Abu Dhabi Police’s General Directorate of Central Operations followed the parade, which began at Al Samha and went through Yas Island and the Corniche Road to end at the Marina Mall, to provide support when necessary.

Major Khalid Al Fil, Head of the Community-based Initiatives Team from the Department of Public Relations Section at Abu Dhabi Police Traffic and Patrols Directorate, said that necessary measures were taken during the parade including lane control and a traffic awareness lecture for the motorists before the parade’s commencement. The awareness lecture urged participants to adhere to traffic rules, abide by the traffic lanes, follow the accompanying traffic patrols guidance, and enlighten them towards the resulting dangers due to reckless motorcycle driving and the need to be a role model for others. He wished everyone success.

He added: “The traffic patrols ensured that the participating motorists are abiding by the necessary precautions required of motorcyclists, which are to wear a helmet and protective clothing that helps to avoid dangerous injuries. Further requirements include wearing protective eye glasses and observing safety procedures to prevent injuries from accidents.

The Traffic and Patrols Directorate, the Community Police, and the organization Saaed, which aims to help reduce traffic accidents, participated in the exhibition held in the Marina Mall. The exhibition displayed traffic patrol motorcycles. Awareness publications were distributed to visitors and special bulletins were given to people to spread awareness regarding the black point traffic system. The initiatives launched by the Traffic and Patrols Directorate were also promoted including its contribution to raising the traffic culture level among motorbike drivers and reducing traffic accidents caused by such vehicles in the context of the road safety strategy of the Abu Dhabi Police and the effective communications outreach targeting the community.

The Emirates Driving Institute also participated in the traffic exhibition with a special corner at the Marina Mall to inform the public about the company subscription protocols to obtain a motorcycle license highlighting that applicants must first open a file at the Vehicles and Drivers Licensing Department.

Khalid Al Mansoori, Business Development Department Manager at the Emirates Driving Institute, said that many facilities are being put forward currently for the exhibition. These facilities, which are available for a short period, are related to training, reservation procedures, and attending theoretical lessons. In addition, for the first time in the Middle East, the company provides advanced training for motorcycle driving through the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents in the UK.
