Abu Dhabi,United Arab Emirates - Monday, January 9th 2012 [ME NewsWire]

IRENA Director-General Adnan Z. Amin held a special briefing with Ambassadors and Members and Signatories from IRENA’s Asian,  Latin American, African,  Western European and Others, and Eastern European groups over the past days to bring them fully up-to-date with the key issues for the Agency’s forthcoming Second Assembly (14-15 January 2012Abu Dhabi, UAE).

These were a series of high-level pre-conference discussions being organised to provide a forum for programmatic and substantial issues and present activities related to IRENA’s 2012 Work Programme.

Topics include the main Assembly agenda, including two Ministerial Roundtables, on IRENA’s Medium-term Strategy and Cooperation with the Private Sector, and the Pacific Leaders’ Meeting. Participants were also briefed on the details of the Assembly’s technical meetings, which focus on the Global Solar and Wind Atlas, the Competitiveness of Renewable Power Generation, a Renewable Readiness Assessment Workshop and the Capacity Building Expert Meeting.

“These meetings will ensure maximum productivity by preparing delegates for the debate, negotiations, networking opportunities and exchange of ideas that the Assembly will bring,” commented Mr. Amin. “Our first Assembly successfully allowed us to create structure, consolidate capacities and set IRENA’s first objectives.  The second Assembly will focus much more on action.”
