AstraZeneca Donates a Fully Equipped Ambulance Car for the Lebanese Red Cross In Light of Its Solidarity during Their Crisis

AstraZeneca, pharmaceutical global industry leader, announced its solidarity with the Lebanese citizens through its scientific office in Lebanon, due to the crisis going through, resulting from the explosion of 2,750 tonnes of ammonium nitrate that had been stored in a warehouse in Beirut port. The explosion resulted in more than 190 death cases and more than 6,000 injuries.


AstraZeneca donated a fully equipped ambulance car for the Lebanese Red Cross, in appreciation of its pivotal role in helping the injured as well as limiting the losses, after a number of the Lebanese Red Cross centres had been damaged, due to the explosion. Furthermore, easing the burden on the Lebanese medical sector during the crisis.


This came in light of AstraZeneca’s ongoing efforts to support and develop the medical sector in the communities where it operates; where AstraZeneca works on providing the healthcare community with treatments and medical solutions across various medical fields, while maintaining the highest quality and ethical standards.


Rami Scandar, Country Director of AstraZeneca Near East & North Africa, said: “AstraZeneca offers condolences to the Lebanese people over the current crisis, which we are confident that they will be able to overcome. AstraZeneca Lebanon has been operating in the medical sector for several years, providing job opportunities for around 68 employees, as the Lebanese market is one of the most significant markets in which the company operates. Accordingly, we promise to lend a helping hand to offer all the necessary medical supplies for the Lebanese medical sector, in order to provide the necessary medical care.”

Also, AstraZeneca’s role is highly emphasized during emergency crises, which requires an immediate action and support, such as Beirut explosion,” said Agnar Abou Jaoude, Commercial Manager at AstraZeneca Lebanon.


It is worth mentioning that AstraZeneca owns a long history in the CSR field, as it always work on supporting the medical sector in various countries, especially since the beginning of Coronavirus spread. Its efforts include cooperation protocols with Ministries of Health in many countries – including Lebanon – which entailed the donation of preventive supplies and medical equipment for doctors and workers at hospitals. Besides, its exceptional efforts in developing the Coronavirus vaccine, through its partnership with Oxford University.
