The Abu Dhabi Police General Headquarters (GHQ), represented by the Cultural and Social Activities Section at the Clubs Department launched the Friends of the Police Program in Al Ain and Abu Dhabi for the children of officers, noncommissioned officers, and civilians working at the Ministry of Interior and the Abu Dhabi Police GHQ. A total of 318 children, both male and female students aged between 7 and 14 years of age, participated in the program; of whom, 166 participated in Abu Dhabi and 152 participated in Al Ain. The program will continue until April 9.
Colonel Hareb Khamis Al Khaili, Deputy Head of the Clubs Department at Abu Dhabi Police GHQ, stressed that the Friends of the Police Program aims to capitalize on the leisure time that officers' children have during the vacation and use this time for useful, educational, recreational and sports activities that will benefit them. “The program introduces the students with their parents’ nature of work, as they serve and protect the community. The program additionally intends to encourage the children to be creative and innovative,” he said.
“The 152 male and female children of our officers in Al Ain, aged 7-14, will participate in the activities that are commensurate with their age group and intellect. The program will provide religious and educational activities alongside behavioral guidance and sports and recreation. The children will also take field trips to various police stations and visit tourist sites,” Colonel Al Khaili said.
For his part, Colonel Saif Saeed Al Shamesi, Head of the Cultural and Social Activities at the Clubs Department noted that 166 male and female children of the officers in Abu Dhabi enrolled in the program. “The activities of the program that occur during the break of the second academic semester will feature multiple visits to a number of the police departments. The students will also take field trips to the Al Samaliya traditional village, theme parks, and to the Al Ain Zoo,” he said. He additionally noted that the program and its activities will conclude in April 2015 with a ceremony; during which, certificates will be distributed to the children who have attended the Friends of the Police Program.
The Friends of the Police Program for the children of Abu Dhabi officers kicked off at Yas Mall with entertainment activities for the children. The children of the Al Ain officers visited the Al Ain Mall, learned about travel procedures at the Al Ain International Airport, and attended a number of religious and cultural shows at the Police Officers Club.
