SAN FRANCISCO - Wednesday, January 22nd 2014
EVault,
Inc., a Seagate company (NASDAQ:STX), today announced EVault® Backup
Services for Windows Azure. Building on the successful relationship
between Microsoft Corp. and EVault, the new service extends data
protection to cross-platform server data, operating systems,
applications, and databases while delivering the flexibility,
scalability, economy, and offsite protection of the cloud. EVault Backup
Services for Windows Azure is now available from Windows Azure data
centers worldwide.
EVault Backup Services for Windows Azure
complements existing business infrastructures, simplifying backup and
recovery of heterogeneous environments to the Windows Azure cloud. The
service provides robust cross-platform support including Windows, Linux,
IBM i and UNIX; multi-hypervisor support including VMware ESXi and
Windows Server with Hyper-V; and granular restore capabilities for core
Microsoft applications such as Microsoft SharePoint, Microsoft Exchange
and SQL Server, as well as Oracle databases. Because it can protect
virtually any workload on a single cloud platform, EVault Backup
Services for Windows Azure enables businesses to consolidate vendor
contract issues and costs while also reducing risk.
“More than
half of the Fortune 500 is already using Windows Azure. Integrating our
flagship product into this extremely successful platform is an
opportunity for us to bring the power of our cloud-connected technology
to more organizations around the world,” said Terry Cunningham,
President and General Manager, EVault. “We are proud to offer customers
the data protection they need to meet their computing and business
goals. Microsoft continues to build out the Windows Azure footprint,
giving customers more options, and extending the global reach of EVault
and that of our channel partners,” Cunningham added.
Microsoft
and EVault partners can help organizations design their roadmap to the
cloud and provide a superior customer experience by sharing their
knowledge and proficiency of Windows Azure. Additionally, partners can
reduce licensing complexity and lower costs for customers by deploying
EVault Backup Services for Windows Azure that take advantage of their
own Windows Azure subscription.
“Organizations are under
increased pressure to protect their critical data, yet minimize capital
investments. EVault Backup Services for Windows Azure enables our
clients to take advantage of their investments in Microsoft technology
to meet both business objectives,” said Ric Opal, Vice President and
General Manager of Peters & Associates, a Chicago-based Microsoft
Gold Certified Partner, and recent recipient of both Microsoft’s 2013
Midwest Partner of the Year award and 2013 Central Region Partner of the
Year award. “Windows Azure and EVault provide cutting-edge security
features and compliance with world-class industry standards to meet the
regulatory demands of our clients, particularly those within the
Financial Services and Healthcare sectors. Today’s news is further
evidence of EVault’s ongoing commitment and strategic relationship with
Microsoft, which is great news for our customers. Combined with our
extensive project experience, we can collectively deliver a superior
customer experience.”
EVault disk-based data protection
technology was built from the ground up for fast, reliable, and secure
backup and recovery. EVault technology includes built-in deduplication —
every backup is a delta backup; changes are tracked at the block
level—and compression efficiencies that speed data transfers, minimize
network bandwidth usage, and reduce storage footprints. It also offers
the high levels of encryption and security, a perfect complement to the
Windows Azure network of data centers.
“By adding EVault Backup
Services for Windows Azure to the existing portfolio of Windows Azure
solutions, we’re able to offer our joint customers a reliable and
security-enhanced data protection solution,” said Kim Akers, General
Manager, Developer and Platform Evangelism, Microsoft. “With EVault
Backup Services for Windows Azure, customers can take advantage of the
open, flexible Windows Azure cloud platform to help ensure their
critical data is protected and recoverable.”
This news follows
EVault’s successful offer for new Windows Azure customers to receive one
free year of EVault Endpoint Protection, a cloud-connected backup,
recovery and data security solution for endpoint devices.
EVault
provides cost-effective onsite, cloud, and cloud-connected — or hybrid —
data protection solutions to help organizations protect and access
their business data. The company has led the industry in the move to
hybrid storage models, with a uniquely integrated ecosystem of EVault®
storage software, SaaS, managed services, and appliances that help
ensure that customers maintain business continuity in multiplatform,
multisite environments.
