As many as 7,000 students benefitted from the Traffic Village that was recently organized by the Traffic and Patrols Directorate at Abu Dhabi Police in the Bada bint Saud touristic region in Al Ain. The village aims to promote traffic safety efforts and raise awareness among young people of motorbike dangers on internal and external roads as well as sandy areas. It also aims to reduce serious traffic accidents that cause deaths and severe injuries.
Major Salah Abdullah Al Humairi, Chief of the Al Ain Traffic and Patrols Section, said: “The Traffic Village was organized in cooperation with a number of entities, namely; the Abu Dhabi Education Council (ADEC); the Al Ain Civil Defense Department; the Al Ain Municipality; the Emergency and Public Safety Section in Al Ain; and the Community Police Section. These activities are part of the 2014 traffic awareness plan and the ‘Beware of Motorbike Dangers’ campaign that was launched by the Ministry of Interior to acquaint students of all ages with the risks and dangers associated with motorbikes.”
For his part, First Lieutenant Nasser Khalifa Al Shamesi, Acting Public Relations Branch Manager at the Al Ain Traffic and Patrols Section and supervisor of the event, indicated that the Traffic Village was highly appreciated by parents, who expressed their admiration for the idea. He also praised the visit of Lt. Colonel Jamal Salem Al Ameri, Chief of Public Relations Section, to the village, where he called upon participating students to abide by safety measures to protect themselves against injuries.
Al Shamesi noted that the village focused mainly on safety requirements for motorbike riding. It acquainted students with the importance of wearing a helmet to prevent head injuries, and wearing protective fireproof clothing. It also urged students to ensure their safety by checking the motorcycle’s front and rear lights, as well as the tires and to install first-aid kit and labels that reflect light.
