Security Media Discusses Features of Government Communication Strategy 2014-2016


ABU DHABI, United Arab Emirates - Wednesday, March 12th 2014 [ME NewsWire]

The Security Media Department at the General Secretariat of the Office of His Highness Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior organized a workshop at the Police Officers Club. The workshop aims to develop the Security Media Strategic Plan with a view to align it with the Ministry’s Strategic Plan (2014-2016) and the Government Communication Strategy supported by the Ministry of Cabinet Affairs.

Major Fawaz Ali Abdullah, Chief of the Government Communication and Media Support Section at the Media Security Department at Abu Dhabi Police, presented a work paper on this occasion. Major Abdullah noted that the Ministry of Interior's strategy aims to employ an effective and comprehensive balanced set of traditional communication tools and channels, as well as modern and interactive tools to deliver the ministry’s media messages.

Furthermore, Major Fawaz said that the Government Communication Strategy features five goals. The first goal is to ensure compatibility and integration with the Federal Government Strategy in order to support its services and initiatives. The second goal highlights the values and particularities of the UAE. The third goal focuses on developing specialized national cadres, qualified in the field of government communication. The fourth goal tackles the mechanisms to enhance the country’s reputation internationally as a successful and unique model. Finally, the fifth goal focuses on how to deal with major social issue and urgent matters.

Furthermore, Major Fawaz reviewed the topics that enhance the overall media vision, which included the use of all communication channels to reach all targeted segments of the audience and address relevant issues. He said: “The second topic emphasized the importance of building a more interactive and positive relationship between the Ministry of Interior and the media, so as to enhance the ministry’s credibility. The third topic highlights the integrated government communication services, which enable government communication workers to provide the best services to users of the Ministry of Interior’s information. The fourth topic tackled supporting the decision-making process through strengthening government communications, supporting policy formulation, and contributing to the success the Ministry of Interior’s initiatives. The fifth topic focuses on building capabilities, promoting professionalism by recruiting qualified people, honing staff members’ experiences, increasing knowledge, and developing systems and processes necessary to achieve the objectives of communication.

For his part, Captain Ahmed Nassib Al Mansouri, Chief of the Strategic Planning Section at the department, praised the participants and urged them to work as a team to implement the initiatives agreed upon during the workshop.

On the same note, Captain Mohammed Salem Al Khateri, Strategic Planning Branch Manager at the Department of Strategy and Performance Development, highlighted the features of the Government Communication Strategy at the Ministry of Interior. “It is aligned with the strategic direction of the Ministry (2014-2016), and the Government Communication Strategy issued by the Ministry of Cabinet Affairs,” said Captain Al Khateri.

He briefed the attendees on the vision, mission, values, objectives, and success factors of the strategy. “The Department of Strategy and Performance Development at the ministry has linked the Government Communication Strategy with two strategic goals, namely the fifth goal, which promotes public confidence in the effectiveness of the services provided by the ministry through effective communication; and the seventh goal, which is providing administrative services in accordance with standards of quality, efficiency and transparency,” said Captain Al Khateri.

Captain Abeer Ahmed Al Afifi, Strategic Development Branch Manager at the Department of Strategy and Performance Development at the ministry, explained the work mechanism of strategic planning at all levels: assessment of the internal and external environment, identifying challenges, opportunities, improvement opportunities, strengths, and developing a list of key strategic issues based on which initiatives are developed in line with the Ministry’s Strategic Plan for (2014-2016), and the Government Communication Strategy issued by the Ministry of Cabinet Affairs.

Attending the workshop were, heads of departments, chiefs of the media and public relations sections, and government communication officials at the Ministry of Interior and Abu Dhabi Police. The workshop was conducted by Major Jamal Salem Al Khateri, Chief of Strategic Planning and Development Section at the Ministry of Interior.
