Prudential Supports Japan Relief Efforts
NEWARK, N.J. - Wednesday, March 16th 2011 [ME NewsWire]
(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Prudential Financial today announced that its foundation, The Prudential Foundation, will contribute 500 million yen, $6.1 million, to support relief efforts in Japan.
“Our thoughts and prayers go out to the people of Japan as they struggle to cope with the aftermath of last week’s devastating earthquakes and tsunami. We hope this donation will help to ease the suffering and assist in the rebuilding effort,” said Prudential Chairman and CEO John Strangfeld.
In addition to the financial contribution from the company, Prudential’s employees have been making contributions to a fund to assist with relief efforts. These donations will be matched by The Prudential Foundation.
For the most part, Prudential’s 23,000 Japanese employees have been reported safe and the company’s facilities were not severely damaged. Prudential’s businesses in Japan are operating and serving customers.
