ABU DHABI, United Arab Emirates - Monday, July 7th 2014
The
Ministry of Interior (MoI), in cooperation with the Department of
Transport (DoT), launched the “They Fooled Me” campaign on a number of
public buses roaming the main routes of the capital. This step reflects
the interest of the ministry to interact with the public and utilize all
means, including public buses, to raise public awareness about drugs
and their impact on individual, family and social levels.
Mohamed
Nasser Al Otaiba, Acting General Manager of the Bus Office at DoT,
praised the efforts of the MoI in launching the campaign that aims to
raise public awareness on drugs. Mr. Al Otaiba said, “The MoI succeeded
in communicating effectively with the public, using a number of friendly
activities and surprises. This reflects the capabilities of the police
to stay up-to-date and achieve the objectives of the police and security
system.”
“We appreciate the extraordinary effort of the MoI,
whose work is professional, meets the ambitions of our people, and leads
the way towards a great future based on a civilized and ideal approach.
These efforts reflect our culture in fighting such obtrusive problems
and working hard to protect our youth- the shield of our homeland that
symbolizes the development of this country,” Mr. Al Otaiba added.
Explaining
the campaign, Mr. Al Otaiba said, “The public transport bus service is a
strategic partner for government efforts in awareness programs and
promoting public awareness. We strive to become an essential partner in
supporting the trends of government in maintaining safety and security
and in stabilizing society.
As 80,000 passengers use public buses
in Abu Dhabi daily, these buses are an important tool for public
awareness campaigns. They target both passengers and other road users
with the large advertisements that appear clearly and directly to
people.”
Ms. Amal Al Nuaimi, Head of PR and Communication
Department, DoT, commended the large role played by the Security Media
Department at the General Secretariat of the Office of H.H Deputy Prime
Minister and Minister of Interior, in raising public awareness and in
staying current. Ms. Al Nuaimi also praised the cooperation with the DoT
and the efforts to work as one team, expressing gratitude to the wise
leadership that established the importance of cooperation among all
government entities.
For its part, the MoI praised the quick
response from all government and social institutions with the MoI
campaign on drugs under the slogan “They Fooled Me.” The MoI also
praised the cooperation of the DoT that was one of the first
institutions to interact with the campaign, reflecting its importance in
raising awareness on drugs.
The campaign features awareness
activities through media outlets (TV, radio and print), mall screens and
buildings in Abu Dhabi, Dubai and the rest of the UAE, and awareness
advertisements through local media outlets.
The campaign,
organized by the Security Media Department, aims to raise public
awareness and highlight the great dangers of drug abuse by focusing on
social media and MoI websites, and Friday sermons.
