Abu Dhabi Emergency, Crisis and Disasters Management Team Honors Volunteers and Cooperative Parties

The local Emergency, Crisis and Disasters Management Team in Abu Dhabi honored yesterday (Thursday) the volunteers and companies that responded during emergencies and took the initiative to handle the effects of the extreme weather conditions witnessed recently in Abu Dhabi.

The recognition ceremony was held at Abu Dhabi Police General Headquarters and covered a number of partners such as: Al Sahraa Group; Nael & Bin Harmal Hydroexport Est; Nael General Contracting Est; Barari Forest Management; Saif Bin Darwish; Tristar Engineering & Construction; Ghantoot Transport & General Contracting Est; Al Asab General Transport & Contracting Est; and Dhabi Contracting LLC.

Major General Mohammed Khalfan Al Rumaithi, Commander-in-Chief of Abu Dhabi Police and Head of the Local Emergency, Crisis and Disasters Management Team, thanked all cooperating parties for their fast response and good management of the weather conditions that were lately witnessed in Abu Dhabi through the best way and as per the international standards in the management of natural events and disasters. These parties’ cooperation had a positive impact on restoring normal life all over Abu Dhabi to achieve full recovery from stormy rains witnessed by most cities in the emirate of Abu Dhabi.

He added that institutions proved their capability to handle extreme weather conditions, and thanked all public and private institutions that largely participated in handling the impacts of stormy rains and provided support to remove the accumulated water from streets and areas in the emirate free of charge.

Major General Al Rumaithi valued the role of Emirati youth and residents who gave the greatest live examples of supporting the police and security staff and UAE institutions by organizing the traffic in some streets. They also played a role in removing harmful objects from the including residues of heavy storms and rains at most of major streets, despite the extreme weather conditions witnessed by Abu Dhabi during the storm.

The Commander-in-Chief of Abu Dhabi Police and Head of the Local Emergency, Crisis and Disasters Management Team assured that the UAE is adopting a united system on the federal and local levels to manage emergencies and crisis. He noted that the system includes four stages: preparation, readiness, response and recovery.

He revealed that the country is a leader in the emergency, crisis and disasters field through its optimal preparation and readiness to respond to such events to ensure fast and healthy recovery, which is something that is unavailable in a number of developed and third world countries. He then stressed the keenness of the wise leadership to ensure the security and safety of citizens, residents, facilities and infrastructure during crisis and disasters with the aim to become the happiest people in the world.

Major General Al Rumaithi thanked all media outlets for their positive response and cooperation with the Emergency, Crisis and Disasters Management Team in Abu Dhabi through the honest, transparent and professional approach in conveying the events, and through avoiding rumors that erupted along with the extreme weather conditions.

The ceremony was attended by Major General Maktoum Al Shareefi, Acting Commander-in-Chief of Abu Dhabi Police; and Brigadier Obeid Salem Al Ketbi, Director General of Human Resources at Abu Dhabi Police; along with a number of high ranking officers and heads of departments in Abu Dhabi Police General Headquarters.

At the conclusion of the ceremony; Major General Al Rumaithi honored the volunteers and companies that utilized their potentials and capabilities in handling the effects of extreme weather conditions witnessed recently in Abu Dhabi. He handed them appreciation certificates and commemorative shields.
