Ministry of Interior Intensifies its Efforts to Promote Traffic Safety during the Eid Holiday

ABU DHABI, United Arab Emirates - Sunday, July 27th 2014 [ME NewsWire]

Traffic Coordination Department at the Ministry of Interior (MoI) announced that Traffic and Patrol Directorates in the UAE will intensify their efforts during the Eid Al Fitr holiday to promote traffic safety. They will also deploy traffic patrols on various internal and external roads with heavy traffic to help the traffic flow, alleviate traffic jams and reduce congestion, and deal with emergency situations.

The MoI urged motorists to adhere to traffic laws and designated speeds, and to avoid the dangers of traffic accidents, which may result in injuries and loss during the holiday.

Brigadier Ghaith Hassan Al Zaabi, Director General, Traffic Coordination Department, Ministry of Interior, stressed the importance of adhering to the traffic laws and to drive carefully especially near shopping malls and markets. He also stressed the importance of leaving a sufficient distance between vehicles, to not obstruct traffic due to incorrectly parking in public parking spaces, or by leaving the vehicle in the wrong position.  Brigadier Al Zaabi pointed out the importance of being careful to not use the spaces designated for handicapped, civil defense, ambulance or rescue cars, so as not to obstruct their duties in case of an emergency.

He called upon the drivers to adhere to the designated speeds of the roads, especially the main roads, as many citizens and residents travel to visit their friends and relatives throughout the UAE. He also asked them to use caution and anticipate for other drivers to make mistakes, to use seatbelts, and to not allow children below the age of 10 to sit in the front seat, as it is safer for them to be in the back seats of the car.

Brigadier Al Zaabi stressed the importance of not using mobile phones to talk, text, or chat while driving. He pointed that this is considered a violation of the law because it is a huge danger to the lives of drivers and other road users.

Brigadier Al Zaabi congratulated the citizens and residents for this occasion and prayed to Allah Almighty to bless the Arab and the Islamic nations.

It worth mentioning that the Security Media Department at the General Secretariat of the Office of H.H Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, is currently pursuing the implementation of the “Your Safety” campaign. This campaign includes a number of awareness-raising initiatives, and complements the ongoing awareness campaigns in an effort to ensure the comfort and safety of the public throughout the Eid holiday.
