A total of 1,688 weapons were recently sold during the International Hunting and Equestrian Exhibition (IHEE) 2013.
Brigadier Dr. Saif Bu Dhufaira Al Ameri, Director General of Security and Ports Affairs at the Abu Dhabi Police, said: “During the preparation for IHEE, the Abu Dhabi Police took the potential rise in the numbers of exhibitors and visitors into consideration. This international exhibition is an event that attracts global companies specialized in weapons and hunting equipment. Furthermore, the exhibition has an established global reputation welcoming more local and international visitors every year. The IHEE requires intense efforts to guarantee security with a thorough system of procedures and transactions related to weapons purchasing.”
He added: “The Abu Dhabi Police members took on this responsibility; visitors interacted with our activities and presentations during the exhibition, including the distinguished services and various shows.” He also praised the higher committee’s efforts in organizing the event. “The IHEE demonstrates the civility of the UAE and the ability of our country to organize such international events. This exhibition has been running for over ten years; its continuous development is in line with everyone’s expectation to remain an unmatched international event,” he explained.
For his part, Colonel Hamid Al Afrit, Head of the Weapons and Explosives Department at the Abu Dhabi Police and Head of the Security Committee at IHEE, said: “The members of the Security Committee and the Abu Dhabi Police completed their tasks with high efficiency before the exhibition’s launch and during its activities. Everyone made great efforts to provide distinguished services reflecting the civilized aspect of the UAE and the Abu Dhabi Police’s interest in providing best-in-class services to the public and the visitors of the exhibition. These services included checking processes, entry and exit security, and issuing weapons purchase licenses.”
Colonel Hamid Al Afrit called upon the public to keep weapons in secure places far from the reach of children. He warned people without licenses or those who do not have knowledge on weapon safety to refrain from using them. He also urged people who own weapons to take all security, safety and maintenance measures.
Captain Khalifa Al Fliti, Director of the Weapon Training Institute at the Weapons and Explosives Department and member of the Security Committee, said: “Before the exhibition’s commencement, the Abu Dhabi Police was committed to spreading and broadcasting advertisements on different media outlets, regarding the requirements for the weapons purchase application at the IHEE.”
“The presence of the Abu Dhabi Police staff during the exhibition was very meaningful and represented the level of development that the Abu Dhabi Police is witnessing. Abu Dhabi Police members worked constantly to receive applications and verify information and license applications. The police also provided female members as administrative staff for the committee and other female members to run check processes at the women’s gates,” he added.
Among the attractive shows during the IHEE, the Security Inspection Department (K9) presented a police dog show. Lieutenant Hamad Mubarak Al Azizi, the show supervisor, said: “Over four days, the show hall witnessed large numbers of visitors who came to watch the dog show, which included raid and attack operation simulations. We also presented numerous dog breeds to the audience.”
The K9 participation at the IHEE was successful. It presented photos and posters of search and rescue operations carried out by police dogs. It also played short films of these operations. The department also presented ways to combat palm weevils, in addition to training operations. The Security Inspection Department presented the video camera mounted on the head of a police dog, which is used to film search and rescue operations.
