“Traffic Village” in Al Bada to Educate Motorcyclists about Safety Precautions

ABU DHABI, United Arab Emirates - Monday, December 30th 2013 [ME NewsWire]

The Traffic and Patrols Directorate at Abu Dhabi Police recently established a Traffic Village to raise awareness among motorcyclists and quad bike drivers in the Al Bada touristic region. It was also established to educate students on safety precautions and the requirements needed in order to drive motorcycles. The village also aims to encourage motorcyclists to abide by traffic rules and exercise caution while driving in order to avoid accidents and maintain their safety and the safety of others.

Major Salah Abdullah Al Humairi, Chief of the Al Ain Traffic and Patrols Section, said that by establishing the village, the Traffic Directorate aims to urge motorcyclists, especially young motorcyclists, to abide by traffic instructions and rules in order to reduce traffic accidents as well as decrease the human and material losses that are experienced when quad bikes of various kinds are misused by young people and adolescents. This is considered to be a careless practice, as a result of the lack of experience and commitment to safety and thus results in traffic accidents.

For his part, First Lieutenant Nasser Khalifa Al Shamesi, Acting Public Relations Branch Manager atAl Ain Traffic and Patrols Section, indicated that the section has established a mobile awareness plan for quad bike drivers that will be implemented at the locations at which they practice this kind of sporting activities in the Al Bada region.  The plan will be implemented by responding to queries and distributing traffic-awareness leaflets and gifts, so as to contribute to traffic safety awareness.

He also stressed the importance of riding motorcycles in areas where bikes are permitted, including sandy and unpopulated areas, and to refrain from riding them in public places and on roads in residential areas. He also called for intensifying supervision and traffic control on internal and external roads in order to catch violators.

Furthermore, he advised all motorcycle drivers to adhere to safety precautions in order to prevent injuries. He also stressed the importance of wearing a helmet to prevent head injuries, and wearing protective fireproof clothing. In addition, he urged them to ensure their safety by checking the motorcycle’s front and rear lights, as well as the tires and urged them to install first-aid kit and labels that reflect light.
