Paul Smith’s first visit to the UAE
DUBAI, United Arab Emirates - Monday, October 24th 2011 [ME NewsWire]
Dubai paid tribute this week to 10 years of Paul Smith in the Middle East. The quirky British designer made his first trip to the Dubai to celebrate his first store opening in BurJuman ten years ago.
The celebratory event took place in honor of his visit and the anniversary, and over 200 Paul Smith fans and socialites flocked to The Pavilion, Downtown Dubai to meet the British Designer.
The prestigious Paul Smith striped mini also made an appearance at The Pavilion. Sir Paul posed with guests against his Multi Stripe MINI, and signed copies of book, “You Can Find Inspiration in Everything”. A collection of personal messages for Sir Paul, thanking him for his influence to the Dubai Fashion world were written and pinned up for others to read.
In addition to his talents as a fashion designer, guests were treated to an exhibition of Sir Paul’s personal photographs he had taken from around the world. The “visual diary” as he called it showed the guests both his sense of humor and love of life.
Along with the photography collection, guests mingled around another exhibition- the mysterious Stamped Objects. This collection of household objects have been arriving at Sir Paul’s workshop from an anonymous sender since the mid 90’s. The objects always arrive unboxed, with the addresses and stamps stuck directly to them.
‘For many many years I have been receiving these crazy things from an unknown fan – male? Female? It’s really amazing. It seems to me to be more artistic than a lot of so called art which is revered around the world. Objects such as a ski, a football, a chair, a surfboard have arrived through the post but NEVER in a box – always with the address and stamps on the actual article. I find it fascinating and intriguing but really don’t want to know who the sender is.’ Paul Smith
Paul Smith’ collections are now available in the UAE- Dubai Mall, Mall of the Emirates and across the Middle East including Lebanon, Kuwait, KSA, Bahrain and Qatar.
