Under the patronage of Lt. General HH Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, Major General Mohammed bin Al Awadhi Al Menhali, Assistant Undersecretary of Resources and Support Services at the Ministry of Interior attended the honoring ceremony of the winning teams and winners that took part in the ninth sporting events, which were organized by the Police Sports Association in Abu Dhabi for members of the Ministry of Interior’s different sectors and departments. The UAE Minister of Interior's General Secretariat was crowned champion of the Sports Excellence Shield.
In his statement on this occasion, Major General Al Menhali stressed the need to support police sports, commensurate with the Ministry of Interior's strategy that gives top priority to spread sporting activities among staff members and encourage them to practice sports. He said: “Sporting activities help to maintain police officers’ physical, mental and psychological abilities, and prepares them properly to perform their duties efficiently. It also fosters and supports social and brotherly ties among the ministry’s staff members.”
He noted that the accolade falls in line with the directives of Lt. General HH Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior and reflects the Ministry of Interior’s strategy, which aims to encourage top achievers and distinguished staff members towards achieving more success across all police fields. This recognition also reflects the firm belief of the police leadership in the important role of sports in shaping the comprehensive police characteristics, instilling self-confidence and the concept of honest competition among MoI’s staff members, and in strengthening cooperation, harmony, love and team work.
Colonel Mohammed Hamid bin Dalmouj Al Dhaheri, Chairman of the Police Sports Association, said that organizing the Ninth Sporting Events consecutively for the MoI members is the result of the continuous support of the police leadership, who provide the means to realize success to the event, as well as to ensure interaction, cohesion and harmony between colleagues. He also noted that the events and competitions will be reshaped and developed next year in a bid to encourage further participations and raise awareness of MoI’s staff members regarding the importance of sports. “Such activities aim to nurture police staff members that are mentally and psychologically fit to carry out the tasks assigned to them,” he said.
He also lauded the cooperation between the different sectors, as well as their positive participation in the activities, which had a significant impact on achieving the goals and aspirations of the Police Sports Federation.
Major General Al Menhali and the attendees watched a documentary film that sheds light on the various activities and events that were organized by the Police Sports Federation across all police GHQs. The documentary also highlighted the achievements made on local, GCC, Arab and International levels.
Towards the end of the ceremony, Major General Mohammed bin Al Awadhi Al Menhali honored the participating sectors, as well as the entities that hosted and contributed to organizing the sports events.
He also handed the trophies and memorial presents to the top three teams and the winners of all sports and cultural activities.
The ceremony was attended by Colonel Waleed Al Shamesi, Director General of Abu Dhabi Police College; Colonel Aref Al Rais, Acting Head of the Police Sports Association; Lt. Colonel Khaled Abdullah Al Khouri, Police College Deputy Director; along with directors general and a number of senior officers at the Ministry of Interior.
