The American University of Ras Al Khaimah (AURAK) has signed an agreement with Incheon National University, which is based in Incheon, South Korea.
The memorandum of understanding aims to promote educational and scientific cooperation, which would be facilitated through the exchange of students and faculty, as well as collaboration in research. The newly-signed agreement also provides a basis for cultural exchange between the United Arab Emirates and South Korea, as well as the possibility for even closer academic ties between the two institutions, through dual degree programs.
Prof. Hassan Hamdan Al Alkim, president of AURAK, commented, “In Incheon National University we have yet another world-class academic partner, which provides our faculty and students with even more opportunities. It represents a wonderful chance to widen our cultural horizons, and we also hope to welcome our first Korean exchange students to Ras Al Khaimah.”
Prof. Dong-Sung Cho, president of Incheon National University praised the initiative, stating, “I look forward to a successful partnership with AURAK, especially in terms of what we can achieve through collaborative research in the future.”
AURAK already has significant ties with South Korea; in February 2016, Konkuk University, whose main campus is based in Seoul, became the university’s first Korean partner. In January 2017, AURAK received a group of 16 students from Keimyung University, who visited Ras Al Khaimah for a cultural exchange trip. During this month’s visit to South Korea, Prof. Al Alkim also took the opportunity to meet the president of Seoul National University, to discuss further cooperation.
Incheon National University is AURAK’s fourth Asian partner, alongside Konkuk University in Seoul, as well as universities in Hong Kong and Malaysia. AURAK will also be participating in this years’ China Annual Conference for International Education & Expo (CACIE) across four cities in eastern China. AURAK also has more than ten North American partners, eight European partner institutions, and an African partner.
AURAK has enjoyed a particularly successive year on all fronts, achieving record enrollment numbers, gaining SACSCOC candidacy status and further ABET accreditation for its engineering programs. This latest MoU underlines AURAK’s ambition to become a leading institution through the impact of its education and research on the region.
