ABU DHABI, United Arab Emirates - Thursday, June 2nd 2016 [ME NewsWire]
The Victim Affairs Office of the Crisis and Disaster Management Department, affiliated with Directorate General of Central Operations, reviewed the State’s experience in the identification of disaster victims, at the 27th INTERPOL meeting in France.
The State delegation was presided by Major Raid Ali Al Muhairi, Director of the Victim Affairs Office, the State representative in the World Commission meetings for the Steering Group on Disaster Victim Identification (DVI), a part of the International Criminal Police Organization, INTERPOL. The United Arab Emirates is the only Arab member approved on a permanent basis in the group.
Major Muhairi delivered a presentation on the readiness and willingness of ADP in the DVI process and detailed a project to establish emergency mortuary vehicles that are ready-made to transport fatalities. Both projects are part of the Ministry of Interior (MoI) projects and are considered as international practices that are activated when disasters occur that cause mass injury and death. It is necessary to consolidate the efforts of government institutions and the relevant authorities for the purpose of disaster victim identification.
Muhairi also discussed the developments and initiatives in the Victim Affairs Office and explained the stages that have been completed to accomplish these initiatives and their objectives.
It is noteworthy that the Victim Affairs Office was developed to embody the MoI’s strategic plan to raise the level of readiness and willingness in regard to the procedures, policies, mechanisms and methods of identifying disaster victims.
