In line with the “They Fooled Me” Campaign

ABU DHABI, United Arab Emirates - Wednesday, June 25th
2014 [ME NewsWire]

The Abu Dhabi Police released 5 booklets (Guidebook) to raise awareness about the dangers of drugs. This step falls within the framework of the “They Fooled Me” Campaign launched recently by the Ministry of Interior.

According to Colonel Sultan Suwayeh Al Darmaki, Chief of the Anti-Drug Section at the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) at the Abu Dhabi Police GHQ, the booklets aim to raise the awareness of all community members - especially the youth.

“Prepared by the Anti-Drug Section in collaboration with the Security Media Department at the General Secretariat of the Office of H.H Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, the booklets support anti-drug efforts, battle drug use as an affliction, and raise public awareness about how dangerous they are,” Colonel Al Darmaki said.

He also explained that the booklets include several paragraphs that present both purposeful informative and educational characteristics that are easy to understand and comprehend. The booklets aim at strengthening the youth’s capabilities mentally, socially, and culturally in addition to developing their self-confidence and enlightening them about the roles they play in society. This would eventually yield positive achievements and bring wellbeing to society.

Colonel Al Darmaki explained that the booklets tackle various topics and have catchy titles such as: “What Do You Know about Drugs?”; “Were Drugs Available  in Ancient Times?”;“Reasons for the Spread of Drug Abuse”; “Psychotropic Substances”; and “Damages of Drug Abuse”. The booklets also provide the toll-free number 8002626 for the Aman service. The public are encouraged to report all negative behavioral problems that may emerge in society.

Additionally, Colonel Al Darmaki pointed out that the Anti-Drug Section at Abu Dhabi Police has exerted great efforts in building personal and social progress and immunity by providing doses of awareness that focus on identifying the harmful dangers of drugs. Urging families to collaborate with the police by monitoring their sons, he called upon them to observe any negative behavior that might materialize. Colonel Al Darmaki also encouraged parents to protect their sons against bad companions by regularly contacting educational institutions to check on their sons’ behaviors, academic achievements and levels. This would allow parents the chance to be mindful of any behavioral changes that may be a result of drug abuse or addiction.

Colonel Al Darmaki invited all parties taking part in the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking 2014 to benefit from the goals and message of the “They Fooled Me” Campaign that is organized by the Ministry of Interior. He also pointed out that the Abu Dhabi Police are continuously working on organizing awareness programs and lectures; and on publishing purposeful booklets that target all societal segments- especially the youth, who are the most vulnerable to becoming victims of drugs.

In conclusion, Colonel Al Darmaki asserted that the participation of the Abu Dhabi Police in the “They Fooled Me” Campaign and the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking 2014 is in pursuance of their strategic objectives aimed at fulfilling their role and methodology in supporting social, cultural, health, environmental, and voluntary activities and taking part in purposeful events.
