بدعم من 16 مشغّل يمثلون مليارَي اتصال في أكثر من 100 دولة

من المقرر إطلاق المشاريع التجريبية في يونيو 2017 في بنغلاديش والبرازيل والهند وميانمار وتايلاند

(بزنيس واير): خلال فعاليات المؤتمر العالمي للجوال، أطلقت اليوم رابطة "جي إس إم إيه" ("جي إس إم إيه") مبادرة "البيانات الضخمة للمنفعة الاجتماعية"، التي ستستفيد من قدرات البيانات الضخمة لمشغلي شبكات الهاتف الجوّال لمعالجة الأزمات الإنسانية، بما في ذلك الأوبئة والكوارث الطبيعية. وتمّ إطلاق هذا البرنامج بالتعاون مع 16 من مشغلي شبكات الهاتف الجوّال الرائدين في العالم -"بهارتي ايرتل"، و"دويتشه تيليكوم"، و"هوتشيسون"، و"كي دي دي آي"، ,"كي تي كوربورايشن"، و"ميلّيكوم"، و"إم تي إس"، ,"إن تي تي دوكومو"، و"إنك"، و"أورانج"، و"إس كي تيليكوم"، و"تليفونيكا"، و"تيلينور"، و"تيليا"، و"تركسل"، و"فودافون" و"زين"- التي تمثل مجتمعة أكثر من مليارَي اتصال عبر أكثر من 100 دولة. وتُعدّ "مؤسسة الأمم المتحدة" شريكاً داعماً، توفّر التنسيق والتكامل مع المنظومة الأوسع نطاقاً، بما في ذلك منظمات مثل "الشراكة العالمية لبيانات التنمية المستدامة" ("جي بي إس دي دي") واتحاد الأثر الرقمي ("دي آي إيه إل"). وستبدأ المشاريع الاختبارية لمبادرة "البيانات الضخمة للمنفعة الإجتماعية"، مع التركيز على الأوبئة، اعتباراً من يونيو 2017 في بنغلاديش والبرازيل والهند وميانمار وتايلاند.

خفض حصيلة الأزمات الإنسانية

تخلّف الأزمات الإنسانية على مثال الأوبئة والكوارث أثراً صاعقاً. فكل عام، يموت 15 مليون شخص ويتفاقم مرض الملايين نتيجة للأمراض المعدية1، والتي تنتشر من خلال الاتصال البشري فضلاً عن مصادر أخرى، مثل البعوض. وتشير التقديرات إلى أن 1،8 مليار شخص تضرروا من الكوارث خلال العقد الماضي2، وبلغت الخسائر الاقتصادية الناجمة عن الكوارث 1،5 تريليون دولار أمريكي من العام 2003 إلى العام 2013 3.

وسيوفّر مشغّلو شبكات الهاتف الجوّال من خلال مبادرة "البيانات الضخمة للمنفعة الإجتماعية" رؤىً أساسية قائمة على البيانات الوصفية مجهولة المصدر الناتجة عن شبكاتهم، بهدف دعم الاستجابة في هذه الحالات الحرجة. وعلى سبيل المثال، تستطيع منظمات الصحة العامة، عن طريق مراقبة تدفق الناس من وإلى المناطق المتأثرة، أن تستجيب على نحو أكثر فعالية لمنع انتشار الأوبئة، وإبطاء انتشار الأمراض وتحسين جهود الإغاثة المستهدفة. ومع الوصول إلى معلومات شبكة الإتصالات المتنقلة، يمكن للوكالات الإنسانية المساعدة بشكل أكثر دقة في الإخلاء والاستجابة وجهود الإنعاش.

تقديم استجابة قابلة للتطوير

يكمن أحد الأهداف الرئيسية لمبادرة "البيانات الضخمة للمنفعة الإجتماعية" في تطوير عمليات وآليات مشتركة قابلة للتطوير وبناء منظومة لدعم التخطيط والاستجابة للأزمات في الوقت المناسب. وستضع رابطة "جي إس إم إيه"، بهدف دعم هذا الغرض، مدونة لقواعد السلوك تهدف إلى ضمان التزام كافة الأنشطة الجارية بأنظمة الخصوصية الصارمة. وعلاوة على ذلك، تعمل رابطة "جي إس إم إيه"  على توحيد العملية، والاستفادة من الخوارزميات والعمليات المشتركة لتوليد الأفكار، وكذلك تحديد تنسيقات الإخراج القياسية الفعلية لتبادل الأفكار وآليات تقديم الأفكار.

ومن المتوقّع إطلاق المشاريع التجريبية لمبادرة  "البيانات الضخمة للمنفعة الإجتماعية" خلال شهر يونيو، مع "بهارتي ايرتل" في الهند، و"تليفونيكا" في البرازيل، و"تيلينور" في بنغلاديش وميانمار وتايلاند. ويهدف هذا المشروع التجريبي متعدد المشغلين إلى تطوير القدرات المشتركة لمراقبة، واستنفار، والتنبؤ وإدارة انتشار الأمراض التي في حال عدم معالجتها، يمكن أن تؤدي إلى انتشار الأوبئة. وسيوفّر المشغلون خلال المشاريع التجريبية رؤىً تحليلية قائمة على البيانات الوصفية مجهولة المصدر باستخدام تغذية البيانات المشتركة والخوارزميات لتوفير أفكار عن أنماط حركة الإنسان. وستُساهم هذه المشاريع التجريبية بإثراء هذه المعلومات بمصادر بيانات من طرف ثالث مثل قدرة استيعاب المستشفيات للمرضى وعدد الموتى وبيانات الطقس، من بين أمور أخرى، لتقديم رؤى ذات مغزى تستطيع الحكومات المحلية والدولية والوكالات الإنسانية استخدامها لاتخاذ قرارات بشأن زمان ومكان وكيفية نشر الموارد. وتتوقع رابطة "جي إس إم إيه"  نشر نتائج هذه التجارب في المؤتمر العالمي للجوال في فبراير 2018.

زيادة الأثر على أهداف التنمية المستدامة

ستترك مبادرة "البيانات الضخمة للمنفعة الإجتماعية" أثراً إيجابياً على العديد من أهداف التنمية المستدامة بما فيها الهدف الأول (القضاء على الفقر)، والهدف 3 (الصحة الجيدة والرفاه)، والهدف 9 (الصناعة والابتكار والبنى التحتيّة الأساسية) ، والهدف 11 (المدن والمجتمعات المحلية المستدامة)، والهدف 13 (العمل المناخي)، والهدف 17 (عقد الشراكات لتحقيق الأهداف).

GSMA Launches Big Data for Social Good Initiative

Backed by 16 Operators Accounting for 2 Billion Connections in Over 100 Countries;

Pilots Set to Launch in June 2017 in Bangladesh, Brazil, India, Myanmar and Thailand

(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Today at Mobile World Congress, the GSMA launched the “Big Data for Social Good” initiative, which will leverage mobile operators’ big data capabilities to address humanitarian crises, including epidemics and natural disasters. The programme is being launched with 16 of the world’s leading mobile operators – Bharti Airtel, Deutsche Telekom, Hutchison, KDDI, KT Corporation, Millicom, MTS, NTT DOCOMO, INC., Orange, SK Telecom, Telefónica, Telenor, Telia, Turkcell, Vodafone and Zain – which collectively account for over 2 billion connections across more than 100 countries. The United Nations Foundation is a supporting partner, providing coordination and integration with the broader ecosystem, including organisations such as Global Partnership for Sustainable Development Data (GPSDD) and the Digital Impact Alliance (DIAL). Trials of Big Data for Social Good, focusing on epidemics, will start from June 2017 in Bangladesh, Brazil, India, Myanmar and Thailand.

“A year ago, the mobile industry became the first sector as a whole to commit to the UN Sustainable Development Goals and, as outlined in our Mobile Industry Impact Report published in September, we are already affecting all 17 Goals to varying degrees,” said Mats Granryd, Director General, GSMA. “We are now focused on amplifying and accelerating our industry’s impact in achieving the SDGs, and the initiative that we are announcing today will contribute greatly in addressing some of the biggest challenges facing humanity: epidemics and natural disasters.”

Reducing the Toll of Humanitarian Crises

The impact of humanitarian crises such as epidemics and disasters is staggering. Each year, 15 million people die and millions more become seriously ill as a result of infectious diseases1, which are spread through human contact as well as other sources, such as mosquitoes. It’s estimated that 1.8 billion people were affected by disaster in the last decade2 and economic losses due to disaster amounted to $1.5 trillion from 2003 to 20133.

Through Big Data for Social Good, mobile operators will provide key insights based on anonymised meta-data generated by their networks to support the response in these critical situations. For instance, by monitoring the flow of people to and from impacted areas, public health organisations can more effectively respond to prevent epidemics, slow the spread of disease and better target relief efforts. With access to mobile network insights, humanitarian agencies can more accurately aid evacuation, response and recovery efforts.

Delivering a Scalable Response

A major goal of the Big Data for Social Good initiative is to develop scalable, common processes and mechanisms and build an ecosystem to support timely planning and response to crises. To support this, the GSMA will be establishing a code of conduct designed to ensure that all activity undertaken adheres to strict privacy regulations. Further, the GSMA is working to standardise the process, leveraging common algorithms and processes to generate insights, as well as defining de-facto standard output formats for sharing insights and mechanisms for delivering insights.

Initial trials of Big Data for Social Good for epidemics are set to begin from June, with Bharti Airtel in India, Telefónica in Brazil, and Telenor in Bangladesh, Myanmar and Thailand. The objective of the multi-operator pilot is to develop common capabilities to monitor, alert, predict and manage the spread of diseases that, if unaddressed, could create epidemics. In the trials, operators will provide insights based on anonymised meta-data using common data feeds and algorithms to provide insights into human movement patterns. The trials will enrich this information with third-party data sources such as hospital intakes, death counts and weather data, among others, to provide meaningful insights that local and international government and humanitarian agencies can use to make decisions on when, where and how to deploy resources. The GSMA expects to publish the results of these trials at Mobile World Congress in February 2018.

Increasing the Impact on SDGs

The Big Data for Social Good initiative will positively impact many of the SDGs, including SDG 1 (No Poverty), SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-Being), SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure), SDG 10 (Reduced Inequalities), SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities), SDG 13 (Climate Action) and SDG 17 (Partnership for the Goals).

Alongside the Big Data for Social Good initiative, the GSMA and UN Global Pulse have collaborated on a report on the “State of Mobile Data for Social Good.” The report demonstrates the potential value of mobile-derived insights in achieving important public policy objectives by synthesising the body of evidence available to date. The report also offers examples of research and pilot efforts that have already been done, and highlights the key challenges and limitations on both the demand and supply sides. Further, the study makes recommendations to advance sustainable public-private partnerships and the use of mobile data for social impact. دراسة جديدة لرابطة جي إس إم إيه تُظهر أن عدد مشتركي الاتصالات الجوالة عالمياً سيتجاوز خمسة مليارات مشترك خلال العام الجاري

 شكّلت منظومة الاتصالات الجوالة 4.4 في المائة من الناتج المحلي الإجمالي العالمي عام 2016

(بزنيس واير): سيتجاوز عدد المشتركين المنفردين في الاتصالات الجوالة حول العالم خمسة مليارات مشترك في وقت لاحق من العام الجاري، وفقاً لدراسة جديدة أجرتها رابطة "جي إس إم إيه". وتكشف النسخة العالمية 2017 من تقرير رابطة "جي إس إم إيه" حول "اقتصاد الاتصالات الجوالة"، أن وصول العدد إلى خمسة مليارات مشترك سيتحقق بحلول منتصف عام 2017 وسيرتفع إلى 5.7 مليار مشترك بحلول نهاية العقد الحالي. وعند الوصول إلى هذا العدد، سيكون ثلاثة أرباع سكان العالم تقريباً قد اشتركوا بخدمة اتصالالت جوالة. وسيتم دعم نمو عدد المشتركين خلال هذه الفترة في المقام الأول من قبل أسواق آسيا الكبرى مثل الهند، التي من المتوقع أن تضيف وحدها 310 ملايين مشترك جديد بحلول عام 2020.

توسع اتصالات الجيل الرابع "4جي" في جميع أنحاء العالم – والاستعداد لإطلاق مجموعة الجيل الخامس "5جي"

سجلت نهاية عام 2016 وجود نحو 4.8 مليار مشترك منفرد في الاتصالات الجوالة و7.9 مليار رابطة اتصال عبر شريحة "سيم" في أنحاء العالم1. وكان أكثر من نصف روابط الاتصال (55 في المائة) يعمل على شبكات جوالة ذات النطاق العريض (من الجيلين الثالث "3جي" والرابع "4جي")، والتي من المتوقع أن تمثل نحو ثلاثة أرباع الاتصالات بحلول عام 2020. ومن المتوقّع أن تتضاعف نسبة اتصالات الجيل الرابع وحدها من 23 في المائة إلى 41 في المائة بحلول نهاية العقد الحالي، نتيجة لاستمرار الاستثمارات في شبكات الجيل الرابع "4جي" من قبل المشغلين. وفي نهاية عام 2016، تم إطلاق 580 شبكة تطور طويل الأمد ("إل تي إي") من الجيل الرابع (4جي") في 188 دولة، ما وفّر تغطية من الجيل الرابع لنحو 60 في المائة من سكان العالم.

وبالنظر أبعد من ذلك، فقد توقعت الدراسة إطلاق أول الشبكات التجارية من الجيل الخامس (بناءً على الإصدار 15 من شبكات التطور طويل الأمد "إل تي إي") عام 2019، وستوفَّر التغطية لثلث سكان العالم بحلول عام 2025، ومن المتوقع أن ينمو عدد روابط الاتصال من الجيل الخامس "5 جي" ليصل الى 1.1 مليار بحلول ذلك العام.

دعم النمو الاقتصادي – وتحقيق الأهداف العالمية

شكلت خدمات وتقنيات الاتصالات الجوالة 4.4 في المائة من إجمالي الناتج المحلي العالمي في عام 2016، أي بقيمة اقتصادية تعادل نحو 3.3 تريليون دولار أمريكي2. ومن المتوقع أن ترتفع هذه النسبة إلى أكثر من 4.2 تريليون دولار أمريكي بحلول عام 2020، أو 4.9 في المائة من إجمالي الناتج المحلي العالمي المُقدر،  مع استمرار البلدان في جميع أنحاء العالم في الاستفادة من تحسينات الإنتاجية والكفاءة التي تحققت بفضل تكنولوجيا الاتصالات الجوالة. ودعمت نظم الاتصالات الجوالة بشكل مباشر وغير مباشر28.5 مليون فرصة عمل خلال عام 2016، ومن المتوقع أن يرتفع هذا الرقم إلى 30.9 مليون فرصة عمل بحلول عام 2020.

ويساهم قطاع الاتصالات الجوالة أيضاً مساهمة متزايدة في تمويل القطاع العام، ومن المتوقع أن يساهم هذا القطاع بمبلغ 500 مليار دولار أمريكي على شكل ضرائب عامة في خلال عام 2020، بعدما بلغ 450 مليار دولار أمريكي العام الماضي. ولا يشمل ذلك الواردات الحكومية التي ارتفعت عن طريق المزادات العلنية، والتي بلغت نحو 19 مليار دولار أمريكي خلال عام 2016.

Number of Global Mobile Subscribers to Surpass Five Billion This Year, Finds New GSMA Study

Mobile Ecosystem Accounted for 4.4 Per Cent of Global GDP in 2016

BARCELONA, Spain-Tuesday, February 28th 2017 [ ME NewsWire ]

(BUSINESS WIRE)-- The number of unique mobile subscribers around the world will surpass 5 billion later this year, according to a new GSMA study. The 2017 global edition of the GSMA’s ‘Mobile Economy’ report reveals that the 5 billion-subscriber milestone will be achieved by mid-year 2017 and will increase to 5.7 billion by the end of the decade. By that point, almost three-quarters of the world’s population will be subscribed to a mobile service. Subscriber growth over this period will be driven primarily by large Asia markets such as India, which alone is forecast to add 310 million new unique subscribers by 2020.

The study also highlights the on-going shift to mobile broadband networks and smartphones, paving the way towards the 5G era, and the mobile industry’s growing contribution to the global economy, jobs and social development.

Mobile operators have invested over a trillion dollars in their networks since 2010 and will invest a further $700 billion over the remainder of the decade as we enter the 5G era.”

4G Expands Across The Globe – 5G Set To Launch

By the end of 2016 there were 4.8 billion unique mobile subscribers and 7.9 billion SIM connections worldwide1. More than half of connections (55 per cent) were running on mobile broadband (3G/4G) networks, which are forecast to account for almost three-quarters of connections by 2020. The proportion of 4G connections alone is forecast to almost double from 23 per cent to 41 per cent by the end of the decade, a result of ongoing investments in 4G networks by operators. At the end of 2016, 580 4G (LTE) networks had been launched across 188 countries, providing 4G coverage to approximately 60 per cent of the global population.

Looking further ahead, the study predicts that the first commercial 5G networks (based on LTE Release 15) will launch in 2019 and will provide coverage to a third of the world’s population by 2025. The number of 5G connections is forecast to reach 1.1 billion by that time.

Supporting Economic Growth – And Delivering the Global Goals

It is calculated that mobile technologies and services accounted for 4.4 per cent of global GDP in 2016, equivalent to around $3.3 trillion of economic value2. This is forecast to increase to more than $4.2 trillion by 2020, or 4.9 per cent of projected global GDP, as countries around the world continue to benefit from the improvements in productivity and efficiency made possible by mobile technology. The mobile ecosystem directly and indirectly supported 28.5 million jobs in 2016, a figure expected to increase to 30.9 million by 2020.

The mobile sector is also making a growing contribution to public sector funding. It is forecast that the industry will contribute $500 billion in the form of general taxation in 2020, up from $450 billion last year. This does not include government revenue raised via spectrum auctions, which totalled almost $19 billion in 2016.

The report also highlights the leading role the mobile industry is playing in meeting the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)3, particularly in areas such as financial inclusion (supporting SDG 1), health (SDG 3), gender equality (SDG 5) and infrastructure (SDG 9). Mobile networks are also pivotal in extending internet access to as much of the world’s population as possible. The number of individuals accessing the internet over mobile devices has doubled over the past five years to 3.6 billion, and will rise to 4.7 billion, equivalent to 60 per cent of the global population, by 2020.
