ABU DHABI, United Arab Emirates - Wednesday, September 4th 2013
The
Abu Dhabi Police Band of the Abu Dhabi Police General Headquarters
attracted an audience of thousands in Moscow during its daily show that
will continue until the 8th of September. The participation of the band
coincides with the Golden Jubilee Celebrations to mark its establishment
in July 1963.
The band presented a number of UAE national and
traditional orchestras performing during the events of the International
Military Music Festival “Spasskaya Tower” being held in the Russian
capital city, Moscow. The various musical performances received the
admiration of the audience, and included national musical pieces such as
Sir Bu Sultan and May Peace Be Upon Khalifa (Ala Khalifa Al Salam),
besides highlighting the UAE’s heritage in the songs Al Aialah and Al
Bawab among others.
The ceremony was attended by a number of
senior officials from the Russian federal government including the
Inspector General of Police, Lt. Gen. Sergei Klebnikov.
The Abu
Dhabi Police General Headquarters delegation, which was headed by
Lieutenant Colonel Saeed Al Khajah, Deputy Director of Tactical Affairs
and Security Media Department at the General Secretariat of the Office
of H.H Deputy Prime Minister & Minister of Interior, and the police
music band participated in the festival that witnessed the participation
of 13 states.
Lt. Colonel Al Khajah said that the participation
is in line with the Abu Dhabi Police General Headquarters commitment to
be present locally and globally, and interact with people and friends to
introduce the UAE’s heritage to them.
He stressed that the
celebrations of the Abu Dhabi Police Band demonstrate the commitment of
the Abu Dhabi Police to document important events during its journey
that exceeds 50 years, and to promote its principles that call for
taking pride in the police and strengthening loyalty and belonging among
all police staff.
He explained that the importance of
participating in external musical shows is derived from the ambition to
promote the name of the Abu Dhabi Police in international forums, and
introduce the members of the band to other international bands through
co-performing.
He said that the band has succeeded in performing
high quality pieces, and introduced its skills and abilities in a way
that attracted the audience. He continued, “This affirms the significant
steps we have made in this field especially in that music is a global
language crossing borders with no need for passports or tickets.”
“Celebrating
such achievements in the history of Abu Dhabi Police sets a tradition
among the staff that sincere efforts are not forgotten. Police music
initiatives continue to familiarize the public with the role of the
police band and its national contributions. It highlights its beginnings
and the stages of its development during the past five decades,” he
stated.
For his part, Major Ibrahim Al Hosani, Chief of the Abu
Dhabi Police Music Band section, said that the participation of the UAE,
represented by the police band, in the International Military Music
Festival “Spasskaya Tower” in Moscow was characterized by new musical
pieces that were enjoyed by the Russian audience who asked the band for
more performances. He explained, “Musical pieces and traditional themes
were presented daily in special outstanding performances for two and a
half hours during the evening period from 8:00 p.m. to 10:30 p.m.”
He
added: “The Abu Dhabi Police would like to avail this opportunity to
further engage with the community through a wide range of live
performances directed to audiences of all ages at shopping malls,
schools and other gathering areas. These pieces have been performed in
many locations around the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, where everyone had been
invited to attend the shows and enjoy them.”
Notably, in addition
to its participation in police trainings, the band contributes in
connecting the police with the public in celebrations and national
events. It witnessed an important stage of development in the attention
paid to its staff and instruments it uses. Besides drums and keyboards, a
number of string instruments such as violin and cello were added. Other
instruments such as clarinets, cornets (also known as a trombone) and
saxophones were added as well.
